I was in a similar boat. I have teeny tiny little hands, so using my iPhone 6 one handed wasn't even possible. So I figured, whats the difference? Might as well go big since I have to use two hands anyway. Upgraded to the 6s Plus and I absolutely love it. It stopped feeling huge after about the 4th day and I'm so happy I made the change.

the iphone 6 is the only iphone i have ever dropped just by holding it.
the thing is so slippery and shaped in a way that you cant ever grip it.
hold it, the only contact it has with your skin are the tiny rounded off edges., and the tip of my index finger on the apple logo.
every other iphone would actually rest on my palm when i'm using it.

thank you all for the great feedback, I really appreciate it! a lot of good ideas to consider in this thread.

Yep. Exactly why I went 6S+ after regular 6.

If neither of them isn't really one handed device, why use the smaller screen one instead of big and beautiful.

Last year I purchased both the 6 and the 6 Plus and didn't use the 6 much at all as I preferred the larger screen and battery life on the 6 Plus. This help my decision to go with the 6S Plus much easier. I'd say it only takes about a week to get used to the larger form factor of the Plus size.

I found this conversation from the Hello Internet podcast very very relevant:

Looks like I may need to give the Plus a shot.
I think that is a good decision. At least you'll see for yourself whether or not the larger size phone is manageable for you. Try to stick with it for a least a week and I think that should give you enough time to see if you like it or not.

I've been using the 4.7" iPhone 6 for over a year now. It's the first iPhone I haven't liked. Now considering upgrading to 5.5" 6s Plus for camera upgrades and possibly different/better handling experience - am I making a mistake?

I know it may seem like an obvious 'yes', but here's my thinking:

  • The camera is maybe the most important aspect of the phone for me. iPhone 6s Plus upgrades in OIS for stills + video and an upgraded front cam are compelling. I think I would benefit since I do a lot of indoor/low light photography and video. However I'm unsure of real world difference.

  • In my time with the iPhone 6 (a little over a year now), much of the frustration has been in physically handling the device. Specifically, in trying to use the phone one-handed, the way I did every other iPhone before it. It almost works, but ultimately just doesn't. It's just slightly too big. Lots of accidental button presses (argh that new wake/sleep button placement!), and the thumb and mental strain add up over time. And I have big hands. It's the first iPhone I can say I haven't loved, and I've used every iPhone since day one.
From what I hear, using the Plus one-handed isn't even possible. So the thought occurred to me that maybe the 5.5" form factor, while even larger, might actually force me to use the device differently, and in a way that would be less annoying than the 4.7" size.

I really wish Apple was able to cram all of the new features into the old smaller form factor, but it looks like they're not bringing it back anytime soon. So I feel like it's maybe worth trying to go the other direction at this point, if only to try something different. Frankly, it's my only other choice in the Apple ecosystem.

Any feedback or similar experiences appreciated. Thanks!

If you have man hands, using the 6 Plus is possible, just depends on how large your hands are.

Why don't you go to an Apple store or store that have, one and hold it ?
That's exactly what I did.

I was thinking of going from a 6 to a 6s+ and ditching the iPad. One device to do it all - or so I was thinking.

Spent about 30 minutes in the store using all the apps I normally use and browsing my favorite websites to get feel for the larger screen.

After all that, I didn't think the bigger screen was worth the size and weight penalty. The main issue was that many apps didn't really use the extra screen size. In many cases the layout was identical to the 6, just bigger.

Enjoy the Plus! :D ;)

No but seriously, no offense to those of you who use it and love it.
Oh, please, how old are you? I'm 49. I've seen and used a lot worse!
