why? Price.

I’m a iPhone lover. I’m getting the 8+. Can’t justify need vs want in the X.
I hope the X flops so that Apple will calm the *** down on these prices.

Will it flop? Absolutely not. But I wish, I wish it would.
How much more materials are in the X vs the 8+? Maybe $60-80??

Maybe I’m being silly, but come on Apple. Over 250 BILLION in cash in the bank, throw us a bone and make it responsibly priced

If it indeed is priced too high for the market to bear, then it will flop.

And Apple is a business, not a charity.

It's a beautiful and well made device , it's face Id that may be the flop.

Your point is valid

You combined a entry price £999 device and charity ..... nice, greedy is more appropriate here

You want a product to flop, just because your personal economy can't handle buying it? Nice.

Rumors state that Samsung charges a 100-150$ price per display, which would in part be a big driver of the price hike.

Given the specs, Apple is not over charging for the iPhone X... for $200 over the 8+, you are getting a higher end screen. They tout that in the recent past OLED was not "good enough" But only now it's better. Ehhhh, it's certainly better or else they wouldn't use it. The big issue is that it costs more. Also you have OIS for two camera lenses, which OIS on one lens was a differentiating factor last year, and this year it's not. Now we have two. Higher end camera and a whole bank of emitters and sensors on the front. It all costs money, and I suspect that 35% markup means $200 more.

I would say the iPhone X is priced where it should be, at $999. You have to decide if you want those extra features for $200 more....

I am more upset that 128GB is not an option for $1049 (X)... or $849 (8+)...

It's all about tiering and up-selling though. I don't need 256GB but I guess that's what I will be getting.

What you hope and what is reality are two different things. It won't flop. But it will appeal to a certain demographic that wants the latest and will embrace this new technology.

Come on... they're overcharging. That's why their profit margins are always monstrous. (A $150 upcharge for increased storage? LOL)

But people are free to not buy it, even though Apple knows they will.

Wait till Black Friday. Apple has a promo this year. Black Friday only.

iPhone X 64 GB
Apple Watch Series 3
AirPods

$1,399.00

Wow, just because you can't afford the X, and you have to buy the terrible 8, you hope it flops,
that is a very mature attitude

I frigging hate Ferrari and Lamborghini :D

I would venture a guess between the screen and FaceID sensor array they aren't making too much more of a profit than they are on other iPhones.

I don't think it will flop, it won't have the sales volumes due to cost and production volume (availability) but I think financially it will be successful.

I think its appearance of success will be determined by how well FaceID works.

Well it's a free market, if the price is indeed too high then it will flop. The price is fine with me, producers can price their products how ever much they want, and consumers can vote with their wallet.

But the FaceID for me is very underwhelming, not as magical as some fanboys on here predicted it to be. It's more cumbersome than TouchID so for me it seems like a step back in terms of user experience.
