Have to agree, that's why Uk carriers offer unlimited SMS on there tariffs.
It's because most people wouldn't use them, but they cap/limit data as it's far more popular with iMessage, whatsapp, etc

I think out of my contacts only one person uses regular SMS as there reluctant to upgrade there ageing nokia.

If SMS are 'free' (inclusive) and data is not, then only a fool would send texts via Whatsapp or iMessage.

They offer "unlimited" text and capped data "depending on network" because it costs the network virtually nothing to send/recieve a text yet providing a high speed data connection takes alot of resources. People i know only communicate via facebook chat or SMS, SMS arn't going anywhere soon.

Not so long ago it used to be the other way around where SMS would cost something crazy (especially for all that it uses up) while pretty much unlimited data was given away for cheap. Just depends on what people use more and where the carriers can make more money.
