I've checked out both 13" and 15" retinas and used them for a bit in the Apple store. I wasn't impressed with the resolution, but that could be my eyes aren't that great at my age. They're nice and light, but at the end of the day, they are just computers to use for a task.

Yea your eyes are bad:D

Well first, I assure you Apple's margins are high.

But what I mean is once all manufacturers are buying high-resolution LCD's then they become a commodity and the price will come way down. Right now only Apple is buying them, but other PC manufacturers are in the process of building their own high-res laptops too.

I imagine it'll take a while since HP, Dell and the like have no control over the OS to support higher resolution. They have to rely on Microsoft to catch up. I'm sure this is a topic of hot debate right now in some closed meetings.

I think you have quite a few more topics to research regarding that.

More demand (commodity) of something doesn't necessarily adjust its price. Its price will adjust if and only when it's feasible to do so for manufacturers. That's why inflations and deflations happen. The market is not infinitely scalable.

Also no one is waiting for Microsoft. Nor do they have to. Windows has had near-perfect DPI scaling since Windows 7.

And there's not a lack of hardware either. We've had 3840 x 2400 displays for a good while:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_T220/T221_LCD_monitors

Really. There's no excuse for lack of support other than that cost is inhibitive, and Apple is about the only company in the entire world with the cash reserve to try making something like a Retina laptop.

victims? No ones ipad 2 stopped working when the newer ones came out.
youre the type who just want the latest apple kit, many of us simply use them as tools.
you may as well buy now, when the retina revision comes out yours will still look the same, no one will know its not the latest.

Actually, for your information, If i'm paying for something over 4 thousand it BETTER have the latest power in it. ESPECIALLY since I stated that I would be using it for 5 years.
With my iPad comment, it was simply a joke of Apple constantly popping off new iPads back to back, resulting in me never owning one.
Go get a drink, and relax.

I understand. That resolution has longevity though, you have to admit.

Ahh, I remember the first time I laid eyes on my MacBook Pro in 2008.

After I purchased it, I went home, unzipped my pants and started to unpack the beautiful Apple box.

After that, I began to take off my shirt and found a jar of peanut butter, so I smeared it on my chest after I lit a candle I found in an old drawer.

I could not resist the temptation and that night my computer and I made love for the first time after I gave her the first bootgasm.

Steamy and hawt. I'm afraid your post might be banned though...

Well said Mike. I can't believe i can hold this laptop on the left hand palm while browsing or doing other things in a couch while watching TV.

Can't do it with any other laptop given the power packed inside.

Yeah I mean... that's pretty impressive for what this machine has inside. It may seem like something stupid to brag about but like you said you can have this 15" laptop in the palm of your hand typing. Trying a cheap PC laptop, the battery sticks out 2 inches in the back, it's heavier, it would topple over and the plastic body would shatter. You literally could probably drop this laptop on carpet, open and nothing would happen - I WOULD NOT TRY!

That's not true. Aluminum is very "soft" for a metal and can bend and dent easily compared to other metals.

He said carpet and I think the laptop will hold if dropped on a carpet. Soft is good. It can take stress a lot better than a stronger metal.

That's interesting. I would never purchase an iPad, those things get released in abundance. My heart still goes out to the victims of the iPad 2. May they find peace and fulfillment while they save enough money for the Retina iPad and/or iPad Mini.

Eh, why? I still use my first gen iPad. I'm happy with it. LTE would be nice and retina is nice, but my first gen iPad still does everything I need. I'll eventually upgrade, but meh. I don't want Apple to stop innovating just because I can't afford to upgrade every 6 months. In fact, I prefer it that way. So when I finally am ready to upgrade, I know I'm getting a cutting edge product, the best Apples engineering pipeline has. Not what Apple is comfortable releasing while they 'hide' the new models because they are afraid they'll alienate customers of the current product.

Besides, never ever owning one because they upgrade too fast? What's the advantage? I have an old iPad.. you have NO iPad, I'll tell ya who I feel sorry for, and it ain't me :D haha.

However, the first gen iPad comment, yeah, I was sold with that too. When they came out, I went into the store, played with one... and had to have one. that's just all there is to it. What an awesome way to browse the web, use apps, etc.

I don't use it as much as I originally did, perhaps that's why I'm not in a hurry to upgrade, but I still use it a lot and absolutely love it.

I hear you :p
The REAL reason I don't own one of them is because I don't feel like I NEED one. I'm purchasing the rMBP and the next generation iPhone so I just don't think it is a necessity I need, especially with these College payments.

Thanks.

It's just to ridicule the fetishism of consumerism.

If it's deleted, then, sorry to say, the mods have no sense of humour.

It might be, it might not. I have about a mountain full of messages from them because I apparently "Aggravate Posters" when I reply to them and use gifs. It's a hot mess.

Is the poster serious with these ridiculous images?

Yep.

God I wish I appreciated things like this I buy too much stuff to care past the first week.

Haha I try to appreciate every Apple product I have. It's hard when there are so many new products that come out that you absolutely WANT, but I just remember that I have all I need. ;)

I'm honestly not sure I would want it, considering how slow iOS 5 is.

Yup. It's the quickest and easiest way to proclaim trashiness on the interwebz.

Leave and have several seats. Nobody put a gun to your head to comment on this.

----------

Damn. There are always some sensitive pricks roaming this forum, .gifs should not make you that damn angry.
Grab a beer and chill the **** out.

If you post pictures of trashy divas, people will think you're a trashy diva. True story.

the ones out now have "the latest power" and will last you 5 years. whatever product you buy will see an update at some point within that 5 years.
and not buying an ipad because they keep releasing new ones is a clear example of you wanting the latest kit. the ipad 4 will still work fine when the 5 comes out.

Is this macrumours or bloody 4chan?

Yeah, we get it, you like GIFs.

I sure do, and there is absolutely no problem with that. Damn. It's like .gifs are the equivalent of Crystal Meth or some **** with your type of people.

If i'm paying money for something, I would like for it to be the latest. Especially when those purchase are over $300. There is nothing wrong with purchasing the latest, ESPECIALLY when you have been working hard and saving up for it.
I know that they get updated shortly after, but saying that I only consume the newest Apple products just because, is really ignorant on your part. Especially considering that you do not me. I do not need an iPad and don't give a damn about it.

This thread is way too creepy, I mean what is with the pictures and fantasy stories about unboxing a laptop

ITS NOT A FANTASY STORY IM JUST EXCITED TO GET ONE, LOL.
Don't get me started on the GIF sensitivity though.

I...I..don't get it. Perhaps if it was the day of release, but 6 months later for a widely available piece of consumer hardware? Anyone who can transport themselves can go see (and touch!) one at a best buy, this isn't some rare, mythical piece of hardware.
