and now when im moving the cursor, it periodically jumps to the opposite side of the screen or to the bottom left corner. is there something im doing that could be causing this? I never had a problem when I was using my 2 button logitec mouse

Optical mice from different manufacturers have different responses to various surfaces (and their various surface albedos).

The only advice I can offer is that you try a mousepad.

might also want to try adjusting the mouse sensitivity in system prefs

try blowing into the sensor, or get a wowpad. best. mouse pad. ever. i recently got a 11.5x12.5" one 😱 and previously an 8.5 inch round
