I Just Can't Find One

It's hard now with me working, I can't go to the Apple stores and wait for them to open.

Where in NY are you? Are you in NYC, Westchester, LI, Upstate? In NYC, I found Grand Central historically to be the best option to just try showing up at random points during the day. It worked for me last year with the iPhone 5 launch. However, with all the tourists and "exporters" NYC stores tend to sell out quickly.

Apple seems to have production at higher levels this year than last year. So I'm guessing that when they say "October" that's what they mean and it will become more plentiful in a week or two.

I've looked everywhere and I just can't find one. Apple Store, Best Buy, Target and nothing.

Don't just do mornings! I finally found my silver at 7::30 pm when they had been sold out just three hours before. Shipments come at random times and go on sale as soon as they hit for the most part.

I got one at Radioshack. People seem to forget that they sell them. The store I went to initially did not have any in stock, but they were able to find one at a different store. They actually activated it on my line from the first store so that there was no way for the other store to sell it in the ~25 minutes it took me to get from one store to the other. You might want to give that a try.

I'm having the same issue except I'm a little more particular. I want a black/grey 64gb on Sprint. The places I've spoken to say the wait will be over 2 weeks. I really wish they would have made the 5S available for preorder.

I got lucky yesterday and was able to get this exact phone from a Sprint store. I called 2 Sprint stores after going to the Apple Store (which they had ZERO Sprint phones at opening). The 2nd Sprint store had one phone left and it was a black 64gb. The girl there told me they usually get a shipment around 12-1 every day. I would just call every Sprint store around 12:30 to see if they have anything.

Same just happened to me actually! Randomly decided to call the Sprint store and they just got one in stock. I was able to convince the guy on the phone to hold it for me. Loving the 5s!

Yes to the obscure retailers. Last year I got my iPhone 5 at Car Toys. They had plenty.
