I just updated to 11.4 and it replaced a folder on my desktop called Relocated Items. What is that?

99% of the time you can delete it. Look inside to confirm before deleting.

This is so strange. This is what is in the Relocated Items folder:

Relocated Items > Configuration > private > etc > group.system_default

I can't tell if it is something I should delete or not.

It has happened to me a few times with different updates. After finding out why the folder was there, I just deleted. Do a backup before deleting just in case.

If you have edited the file, the reallocated file is your edited version, the update automatically replaced it, the folder on the desktop is just a symlink, the real folder is located in /Users/Shared/Relocated Items

my relocated items are mostly apache2 configurations that I stopped using.

Is 11.4 Big Sur? Was that your MBP? Any other issues???
Still debating updating, currently still on Mojave😁
11.4 has been awesome on my M1 MacBook Pro, it’s given me back my awesome battery life that apple stuffed up on previous big sur builds, feels even smoother and snappier as well, definitely install it.👌😊

How do I find /Users/Shared/Relocated Items

I rarely have had to charge mine. It is awesome how long the battery lasts

How do I find /Users/Shared/Relocated Items
- If your finder shows the path bar at the bottom, double click the Users folder, you will see the Shared folder

- If you don't see the Path Bar while focusing on the finder, in the menu bar click view then locate the show Path Bar in the dropdown and click on it you should now see the Path bar in finder and do the above Or cmd+option+P

- Or if you see your username in the finder sidebar, click on it then click cmd + arrow up

- Or if you Locations on the sidebar of finder click the MacBook icon, then macOS, then Users and you should see your username folder and the Shared folder.

Sorry. I don't see any of this.

Other way around. Apple does not replace the edited file, it puts the file that SHOULD be there in Relocated Items. Every update I do, I get told about /etc/shells, for example, because I added ksh93u+m to it.

People whine enough about Apple telling them there's a difference in files, can you imagine how bad it would be if they replaced the users file with the original one?

You right I actually did take a look at it since I stopped using those files and that's normally how it should be 😅
