I just updated to 11.4 and it replaced a folder on my desktop called Relocated Items. What is that?
If a Relocated Items folder appears on your Mac after upgrading macOS
If a Relocated Items folder appears after you upgrade macOS, read the PDF document in the folder for more information.support.apple.com
99% of the time you can delete it. Look inside to confirm before deleting.
It has happened to me a few times with different updates. After finding out why the folder was there, I just deleted. Do a backup before deleting just in case. This is so strange. This is what is in the Relocated Items folder:
Relocated Items > Configuration > private > etc > group.system_default
I can't tell if it is something I should delete or not.
If you have edited the file, the reallocated file is your edited version, the update automatically replaced it, the folder on the desktop is just a symlink, the real folder is located in /Users/Shared/Relocated ItemsThis is so strange. This is what is in the Relocated Items folder:
Relocated Items > Configuration > private > etc > group.system_default

Delete it, I alway delete mine if it appears after a update, no issues so far 😃I just updated to 11.4 and it replaced a folder on my desktop called Relocated Items. What is that?
11.4 has been awesome on my M1 MacBook Pro, it’s given me back my awesome battery life that apple stuffed up on previous big sur builds, feels even smoother and snappier as well, definitely install it.👌😊Is 11.4 Big Sur? Was that your MBP? Any other issues???
Still debating updating, currently still on Mojave😁
How do I find /Users/Shared/Relocated ItemsIf you have edited the file, the reallocated file is your edited version, the update automatically replaced it, the folder on the desktop is just a symlink, the real folder is located in /Users/Shared/Relocated Items
my relocated items are mostly apache2 configurations that I stopped using.
Good to know Thanks!Delete it, I alway delete mine if it appears after a update, no issues so far 😃
I rarely have had to charge mine. It is awesome how long the battery lasts11.4 has been awesome on my M1 MacBook Pro, it’s given me back my awesome battery life that apple stuffed up on previous big sur builds, feels even smoother and snappier as well, definitely install it.👌😊

- Or if you see your username in the finder sidebar, click on it then click cmd + arrow up
- Or if you Locations on the sidebar of finder click the MacBook icon, then macOS, then Users and you should see your username folder and the Shared folder.
Other way around. Apple does not replace the edited file, it puts the file that SHOULD be there in Relocated Items. Every update I do, I get told about /etc/shells, for example, because I added ksh93u+m to it.If you have edited the file, the reallocated file is your edited version, the update automatically replaced it,
You right I actually did take a look at it since I stopped using those files and that's normally how it should be 😅Other way around. People whine enough about Apple telling them there's a difference in files, can you imagine how bad it would be if they replaced the users file with the original one?
You mean the options to navigate to the Shared folder or you don't see the reallocated folder?Sorry. I don't see any of this.
I don’t see options to navigate to the shared folderYou mean the options to navigate to the Shared folder or you don't see the reallocated folder?
really😨, that's impossible if you have a finder window open and focus on, you should be able to do one the above if not well that's more than odd, and I this point can't be of much help😅I don’t see options to navigate to the shared folder
