Hi,
I've been using my base 2015 13" MacBook Pro for more than 2 years and especially the storage was becoming a problem. Also my roommate wanted a new computer and he's been asking me whether I'd like to sell it to him. So I found a 2015 15" MacBook Pro with upgraded i7 2.5Ghz, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and AMD R370X.
So the 15" MacBook I picked up has a French AZERTY keyboard and a deep scratch on the Screen (it's on the glass, but I know it's not possible just to change the display glass.
I fixed the AZERTY keyboard by rearranging the keys and as I broke a key cap while doing so, I ordered a bunch of replacement keycaps.
In terms of the screen, I have a Genius Bar appointment tomorrow but I know it's gonna be expensive, as even the screens for eBay sell for ~$450 Canadian. It doesn't bother me that much, as it's around an inch long and only visible on light background.
The seller bought it new around 2 years ago. Thermals wise it's fine when idling or under light use but tends to get loud under moderate-heavy use. CPU runs around 2.9Ghz under full use.
Battery life is around 4-7 hours, depending on my use. It only had 160 battery cycles when I got it and it has 175 now, and the battery health fluctuates between 86-90%.
I've never opened up a MacBook before, my plan is to clean the fans and maybe re-apply thermal paste.
Overall I'm very happy with my upgrade. I sold my 13" 2015 rMBP to my roommate for the price I got this 15" (because of the French keyboard and the scratch on the screen -- also the fact that the seller was fed up with MacBooks)
I also looked at 2016-2018 15" MacBook Pros but although they (some of them, at least) have much better specs they were MUCH more expensive.
I just wanted to share my upgrade, and also was wondering whether someone has a scratched screen and what they did about that!
Thanks!
