iPhone 6(S)/Plus I just got a call from Apple about my battery.

Apple just called and said late March to early April for my 6+ battery. They stated that the 6+ isn't made by apple anymore and they are going to have to start making them again.

I went to the Apple store on Jan 2nd and was told the battery would be there in a week.

This is getting worse and worse.

Same thing just happened to me.
My 6s qualified for a free replacement so last week they said in two weeks......now they say March also.

I think Apple severely undermined the battery replacements and exactly what they were going to need for quantity when it came to demand for The amount of 6/6S users coming forward.

Batteries start deteriorating the moment they leave the factory, so customers like Apple don't tend to stock up on them. Li-ion cells in bulk are also restricted to surface transport.

On the flip side, you know you're getting a fresh battery.

I wonder if there is a way to prioritize customers whose phones are getting throttled due to poor battery wear from those who just would like a replacement?

Of course, if they hand out refurbs instead of new phones, we'll have a whole new series of governmental investigations and class action lawsuits.

It was reported on this site back after Apple announced it was going to do battery replacements for $29.00 that it would be at least early March before they could get the amount of Li-Ion batteries needed. However, like someone else said, at least you know you will be getting a super brand new battery.

Apple probably has enough resources to handle the current battery campaign. Most people just prefer to walk into an Apple Store instead of mailing in. That's the main problem.

I thought iPhone 7s were suffering from this issue as well? I swore I read reports that the iPhone 7 was being throttled if the battery was not meeting a certain threshold. I own a 6s, 7+, and iPhone X. My 6s is actually fine, and it is a launch day phone. Battery condition is excellent according to Coconut Battery, and it only has 164 cycles on the battery.

I believe you're right, but the 7s are at least a year (vs. 6S) or two (vs. 6) newer, so much less likely to be experiencing this.

My wife's 6, which is something like January 2014, has over 750 cycles but still shows 87% of original capacity according to CoconutBattery. And it still turns in high-end GB4 benchmarks. But it also runs like crap. I blame 1GB of RAM, since there are no other obvious candidates, but that's a different thread.

Yeah, my iPhone 6s which I actually was doing GB4 benchmarks on today all passed with high-end benchmarks as well. I just do not put a lot of cycles on my iPhones like some people do.

My 9/2017 7 is at 89 cycles and 100% of original capacity. You and I are similar users.

My 9/07/2015 6s has 164 cycles and 93% of original capacity.

My 4/18/2016 iPad Pro has 52 cycles and 99% original capacity.

My 9/12/2016 7+ has 153 cycles and 99% of original capacity.

My 10/30/2017 X has 24 cycles and obviously 100% capacity.

Also my 4/25/2016 MacBook Pro (2015) has 34 cycles and 100% capacity.

So yes, we are pretty similar users for sure. I just included the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro because I had Coconut Battery open, haha.

Do you mean they are going to have to make the battery for the 6+ again, or do you mean they are going to start making 6+'s again?

If the person who called you told that they are going to start making 6/6+'s again, that is not true. They are probably going to upgrade some people to iPhone 7's, but obviously not everyone. People who really need a battery replacement now but cannot get one are the people who might just get 7's. Apple has done this before with the 2016 MacBook Pro that had keyboard problems and gave people 2017 MacBook Pros.

I’m the case of the keyboard problems, that was a defect. A lithium battery in a cp that’s at its eol is a normal wear thing, like the brake pads or shoes on your car. Just because they are out of stock of brake pads doesn’t mean I would expect them to give me a newer car. 😛

The only difficult part with that would be you have those who are making reservations either way for battery replacements or throttling concerns. And then you have the shortage of batteries to add to the effect for both situations. It would be difficult to prioritize which is which based on what the customer needs.

Do you mean iPhone 6 Plus or 6 Plus battery is not made by apple anymore? Do you know is apple replacing the whole unit or replacing just the batteries for $29?

I would not want a 7+ for free, if they offered it, which it think is a pipe dream. I want my headphone jack until the drag it out of my cold dead hands 😵 Now a 6s +, maybe 😉
