I'm intrigued by this notion that doing some community service should give you a 'get out of jail free' card. What other obligations do you expect to be excused from? I predict a long career as a politician.

If I do 500 hours of community service, can I legally suffocate the OP and not face a punishment??

I'm beginning to warm to this idea. It would be a kind of 'pre-pay' punishmant system. You'd commit a crime and then just cash in your vouchers.

In Florida, and I would hope since it makes sense, a lot of other states, your registration expires on your birthday. Always.

Say you buy a car in January.

Your birthday is in February.

You must pay the $35 or whatever to get your registration sticker.

When your birthday rolls around, you must purchase another registration as the one you got in january was only good until your next birthday.

There is really no excuse, in FL at least, for not knowing when your registration is up, if you dont know your own b-day you probably shouldnt be driving anyway.

Wow, I sure jealous of those people who were born on February 29th.

Anyway, I think the OP gets the point.

I may actually do 550 minutes of community service, strangle the OP (trading in 500 minutes for my freedom), and use the extra 50 minutes to steal myself a new pair of runners. My current pair has a new hole in the front and I can't afford to trade money for these shoes, only my minutes. :(

....
totally off topic but, in all seriousness, don't be. I knew someone born on 29th February and it is always a problem to fill in online forms. Most sites don't classify it as a real date, even though every 4 years it does exist. What a pain in the pooper!

they do what everyone else does, fill in the 28th like a normal person.

I never said to "cash" in those comm. service hours, because honestly I'll do at least another 100 by the end of the semester. Not bragging, not trying to be a little wimp and try to get out of a ticket, only saying I'm not an alcoholic property-destroying obnoxious driving typical college student. My original posting on this topic was just to vent out and see what people would say about it. Now apparently everyone thinks I'm some kind of lazy moron who should just fess up and pay the fine.

By the way, I was completely polite to the officer, and it was 4 months overdue because my mail comes to my house, not here. I moved into school 2 weeks before September. Looking through a crapload of mail over Thanksgiving, I must have glanced over it along with the other 9309343 credit card envelopes I got and didn't even bother to open.

But seriously whatever, it doesn't matter. My tax refund comes in a few days anyway and I'll use that to pay. I better pay it soon though cause that $36 could have put somebody in danger of a broken road or maybe even a pothole..... Peace guys.
