I was on craigslist and this guy has on there that he is selling "an apple imac, know nothing about, has cool screen - $35" I call the guy up and ask to see it and wouldnt you know it, he has a 17' inch iMac G4 sitting there. I boot it up and every thing runs smooth (and quick!) So I pay the guy and bring it home to clean it up and I realize that I just got something worth $240, according to mac2sell.com, for dirt cheap! It is a 1 GHz PowerPC G4, 768 MB Ram, 80 Gig HD, running Tiger, and has a superdrive and airport extreme in it!

The only problem is that this guy was a heavy smoker and it is smelling up my whole apartment!!

P.S.- I just put three huge and deep scratches on my MBP... GRR, I hate myself sometimes!!

That's great! I've always loved those machines, even though I never had one. And you got a GREAT price :D

Also, that machine would run great as a home server ;)

Older G4 systems seem to have come down in price, as have the parts for older systems but those prices are unbelievable compared with the UK (as the case usually is).

I originally bought my Quicksilver as an 800Mhz Single CPU model with 1Gb of factory fitted RAM and an extra 40Gb internal drive on eBay for £398.00 (in 2005). It was literally in brand new condition, manuals still in plastic, not a single blemish on the case etc...

I added an Airport Card for £58, a Radeon 7000 PCI card for £36 and this year I picked up a CPU module pulled from an 800Mhz Dual Quicksilver for £30, a couple of 512Mb DIMMS to max out the RAM for £38 and I've just paid £60 for an 256Mb Nvidia GeForce 6200 for Core Image support.

Unbelievable....

after I saw this I searched for an iMac G4 in my area and whaddya know? an iMac G4 for $40

Im trying to contact the seller ATM.

Yeah craigslist is amazing, you get alot of people that have know idea what they have and will sell it for low low prices! so far I have gotten a mini (first gen.) for $10, a emac for an old sprint phone (I mean old!), third gen. nano 8 gig for $40, and a first gen. nano for $20... All of them worked perfectly!

I gave the first gen. nano to a friend and have sold the rest now!

Dude! Awesome deal! I love iMac G4s as well, I bought my 15 inch for $150. Its got a 700mhz processor, 384mb RAM, and a 40gb HDD. Heres a pic of it, next to my graphite G3 iMac (top of the line) that I got for free :D

awesome deal man, I was about to buy a G4 for 150 but backed down because the screen wasn't working properly, I want it just as a desktop computer, not really a repair project.

I really just wanted to have it for a movie and music hub! aka: A home server!

It has a password on it but I cant reset it in single user mode because I don't have an apple keyboard to use with it (no "apple" button to push), I just have a windows keyboard!

I bought one 4 years ago for $250. The guy said there was problems with it so I took a chance. Little did he know it just needed a new hard drive. Worked 100% perfect after that, so I sold it for $600 and made a decent profit.

I love that machine though, if I didn't already have a Powermac at the time I would have kept it.

Leopard will work since your iMac is supported. I got a 15" iMac G4 with a 40GB HD, 128MB RAM, for $130 shipped. The iMac is currently running 10.3.9 but after an airport and a RAM upgrade, I'm going to put Tiger on it.
