I am really getting in to older macs and I love the g4 cube, my university used these for the small mac section of the computer lab when I was a freshman and I have wanted one ever since.

I was on craigslist and this guy has on there that he is selling "an apple imac, know nothing about, has cool screen - $35" I call the guy up and ask to see it and wouldnt you know it, he has a 17' inch iMac G4 sitting there. I boot it up and every thing runs smooth (and quick!) So I pay the guy and bring it home to clean it up and I realize that I just got something worth $240, according to mac2sell.com, for dirt cheap! It is a 1 GHz PowerPC G4, 768 MB Ram, 80 Gig HD, running Tiger, and has a superdrive and airport extreme in it!

The only problem is that this guy was a heavy smoker and it is smelling up my whole apartment!!

P.S.- I just put three huge and deep scratches on my MBP... GRR, I hate myself sometimes!!

I'll double your money and give you $70 for it! :)

Hell of a deal, congrats!

I don't like Mac2sell.com,it just told me my amazing PM G4 was worth only 120 Bucks!:mad:I worked 8 hours digging a trench down a mountain side for it so I put more than 120 bucks into it,and at the time it was the middle range computer,so it's really good even today.

I'm extremely jealous of this G4, not to mention the deal you got!!

This is the model that made me fall in love with Apple design.

Smoking deal! And a beautiful machine. If it's got an Airport card in it that alone is worth your investment of $35. :)

I've been talking to someone who wants to sell me 6 iMac G4's for $650... apparently they're all running 10.5 and are all 1Ghz machines... Such a great deal, especially since two of them are 17"ers.

But my wife would literally murder me if I brought SIX more Macs into the house. I'd be found dead somewhere. My wife is a "one Mac" kind of lady. I'm more of a "20 Macs" kind of guy. :D

Yeah, after i saw this thread i was commited to hunt and find one no matter what.

I found one immediately for $40 on kijiji, and 4 days before I was supposed to get it, someone swooped in and took it.

I later found one that someone was willing to trade for, I traded my old PC i used as a storage server that I no longer needed and whola, i have the EXACT same model (minus the airport card) Heck, im typing on it now as opposed to my brand new 2009 Mac Mini.
Whats really cool is that the seller gave me the power cord, keyboard, and Mighty mouse (not pro mouse) and included 6 big encyclopedia sized books on Mac OS X and how to use it and Photoshop 5.0. He also included a booklet full of goodies (CDs) like Mac OS 9.1 (2 of them) and Mac OS X Jaguar, and the original restore dvds for the imac (he also included other CDs like photoshop elements, photoshop 5.0, Stuffit Expander 10, and Norton AntiVirus for mac.)

Heck this machine is so well and fast I could make it my primary computer if I was able to get 2Gbs of RAM, an airport card, and a 500Gb drive for it.

Great computers. I fell in love with this design from the very start.

P.S almost got my hands on a PowerBook G3 pismo for $20 until someone swooped in and took it right before i messaged the seller =[

That's great! I've always loved those machines, even though I never had one. And you got a GREAT price :D

Also, that machine would run great as a home server ;)

How would you use this to run it as a home server? Just curious?

thanks

yes im actually very curious about this also i really don't see the benefits of having like lets say your entire music library on here if that mac isn't hooked up to some decent audio equipment but a torrent box yeah i can see that. And how would you steam your music from that mac to another?

An organisation I do work for has two G4 iMacs and one G3 iMac that they've officially written off the accounts and at some stage will give tham away. At the moment they are just sitting in a cupboard. Unfortunately here in New Zealand they aren't worth much at all. :(
