Hey all, just wanted to make a simple thread because I'm super exited! ^^ My site, www.acdesigns.cz.cc, just got second place at a state competition. :D Sadly there is no cash prize, nor a scholarship. :(

Congratz. I recently asked my friend Darin who's on this forum, how you did a few of the things on your site. I really like the gallery effect, and would like to know how to do that and also on the second page of your gallery theres a site you made where the header like changes, but your not using flash so I would like to know how to do that to. Once again congrat:apple:z!

You expect us to believe you can code a whole website when you can even manage a link?

what did you win for? theres nothing on that website that would constitue advanced skills in the art of web design..... Don't believe it won anything except week design..

Dead link.

Link works. It was a problem with my server. It should be fixed now. ^^

Using any javascript libraries (jquery, etc.)?

Aye, under the featured projects and portfolio sections. Didn't really want to over do it.

Congratulations!!!

Thanks! ^^

Here's a tutorial for the gallery effect. Click Me!

Also, I don't see a change of the header.

The problem wasn't with the link. My server was down for a bit, it should be up now. Thanks for the snotty comment.

If I may just say a couple of things. Firstly, there was no need for a comment such as yours. Indeed, the website is not advanced, but that's to be expected at my level. I am currently only in high school and have been doing this for less than two years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it take more time than that to be good at something? Besides, for my level I've done pretty good for myself. At events sponsored by Skills USA I took 2nd place regional and 5th at state in addition to this one. I have the certificate, metal, and web resources to prove it.

Instead of insulting me and ultimately showing your lack of intelligence, you could have wrote WHY my design was week and what I could do to improve it.

Oh, by the way, I don't think you have the right to criticize me when you can't even capitalize, use proper grammar, and spell correctly.

Well it works on my end. So, I don't know what's going on. :/

I was looking forward to seeing it.

Then again I also look forward to seeing the Abominable Snowman, the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot. ;)

Congratulations!
Always feels good to win something...

And if you enter enough competitions, sooner or later you will.

I'm a graphic designer who couldn't care less about competitions. But I work in an office of people who seem to think that they're some kind of indicator of success.

What's my indicator of success? Whether the print or web design accomplished the goal it sought to achieve. Did it increase traffic, sales, good will or awareness?

If so, no award is necessary. If not, no award makes up for it.

One more thought. I work at a university with a lot of other hard working, dedicated staff members. Virtually none of them gets "awarded" for their work.

It almost makes you wonder how they can find the will to get up and go to work every day.

Well super congrats to you op!
Was this for an Designed in iWeb competition?

wow dude sounds personal. did you get passed over for an award or something? Kind of sounds like you're bitter.

Still dead link (both) here I'm afraid! I look forward to seeing it though...

citizenzen, I like the way you think :)

Huh. I suppose it's time to switch hosts then. It must not be able to connect to either 1) the area you live in or 2) your operating system. Of course, I doubt the later because some people have been able to see the website under OSX. I'll look into it.

Actually, just won a CASE Gold Medal.

There goes that theory.

I'd say I'm less bitter, and more "old school".

I try to let the work speak for itself.

Indeed.

Furthermore, if he does go to college for design his professors will not put him on a pedestal and praise his work. Even if his design was impecable (I could critique the HELL out of the **** he just posted) a professor will chew it up, throw it away, and ask him what else he got. Criticism is how we designers learn to design better.

And trust me, if he won a prize for that then the judges weren't designers in the broadest sense of the word. I've won prizes back in HS for my ****** designs and now I look back and think, God what were the judges smoking?

I look back at what I was doing last week and wonder the same thing about myself. ;)

Anyway... the site finally worked for me.

Congratulations.

Keep working, learning and digging into design.

One day you'll be my inspiration.
