Wow. Strange coincidince i think. A week ago i was leaving for some camping, and i wanted to charge my ipod off of a battery. I've done it before, 9v stepped down to 5 and then run through usb, all in an altoids gum can. Worked the first time, 'cept my soldering iron was junk and i ran out of duct tape. So it worked for a bit. I lost it though. but i was half in the process of making another one, so before i left last week i tried finishing it. Everything but the 9v was connected, and i kinda forgot the wiring. I was too lazy to check so i decided to just... test it.... like an idiot. theres 3 pins on the step down part. Tried all the combinations except for the ones i half knew would kill the ipod, basically so it doesnt go through the step down. But i tried it anyways, and the same thing happened, turned on, drained the battery and powered down. Well i mustve had it in reverse, or so i though, tried the other way, and it just kinda lit up. Then it didnt, and hasnt, turned back on.
Though i do have a question. How long is the warranty? I highly doubt i got the extended one, though i remember discussing it. Cause i'm just gonna tell 'em there was a power surge while it was connected to my computer... if i have to tell them anything. If they replace it, cool, ill remember to buy a case this time. If not, well, good thing i'm in that electronics class...
So what is it that fried? The battery hopefully? Or the hdd? that would really suck. Or just some random components? Possibly replaceable? If anything it'll become some frankenstein looking thing... some battery pack duct taped to the back or something... oh well.
