I laugh when people "wait for the next version"...

First off, because apple products hold their value and you can EASILY sell them later when you upgrade.

I think it's so funny when people wait a whole year, as though there wouldn't be something better coming along after they make their purhase later. They just sit back and watch everyone else enjoy their cool new gadget.

So relating to the ipad, do you plan to buy and sell later? Or will you wait a whole year?

I know there is a thread asking if you will buy the ipad, but what I'm asking is:
If you do buy this item, do you plan on selling it later? Or are you really going to wait for the next version? :D

No sense in buying a weak first generation product. I waited until the third iPhone before getting one. Before then, I felt their product still lacked in even the most basic of functions.

I'll probably wait for the next generation.... unless I'm really bored one day and feel like buying a new toy.

For me: Apple Store = Toys R Us :D

Why make people wait for the next version? The iPad better has be the product that everyone wants to buy right away. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be.

... I used to laugh at that too. That was correct in the case of when I got my iPod Touch 4 months before the 2nd version came out, my MacBook a year before an updated spec came out, my MacBook Pro a month from a slight upgrade of the processor.

I don't really plan on selling my Apple stuff so I don't think the retail value thing is really a big deal. In fact I don't really mind if the retail value plummets.

I kinda agree with FrankieTDouglas-While it looks awesome, I just recently got my iPod Touch 3G so I don't think there's anything compelling me to get it currently.

Maybe when the next version comes out with a camera or something.

No kidding.

On the other hand, I actually do understand why people would wait until the next version on this. The exception being that the iPad isn't a necessity. Like the other guy said, it doesn't do anything that the iPod or iPhone doesn't. But again, for me, I might get one for the car. I will probably end up buying it.

To be more clear from my initial post, it's just silly to me when people wait for the next version when they obviously want it really bad NOW. In that case, I would just buy then sell/upgrade.

I have no use for it. I was a little underwhelmed after watching the keynote. I was impressed, but my jaw wasn't on the floor as it was after the first iPhone keynote.

I'll wait for the 2nd gen, and if it's more impressive, I'll pick that up. I'm still having fun with my new MBP and my 3GS.

I've decided this is a wait and see product. If it had been an official version of the "modbook" .. I'd have bought it as a replacement for my iMac.

My ipod touch 1st gen works well... I have a 'toshed mini 10 for the road... I just don't see myself using this til the ipod breaks. If they add a camera and some other stuff on a future version... Maybe i'll buy then.

Hubby wants one instead of a kindle. That i can see.. with my Kindle ipod app & FileMagnet.. that makes sense.

as for me.. i'll wait.

I think it's funny when people "wait for something better" in general, because there will ALWAYS be something better coming eventually.

HELLO, it's technology, there will always be a better one coming.

If I don't need it now, why can't I wait until later to get one? And if I'm waiting because I don't need one, why can't I wait until a newer, better one comes out?

Don't get offended.

MOST people who wait for the "next version" do so because they want something better. If people are waiting because they don't have money, then they say they are waiting because they don't have money. They justify that by saying, "By the time I have money for it, a newer, better one will come out."

I *believe* this thread is about people who are waiting for the "next version" because they have a "wishlist" of features that they want on it, and they seem to be holding onto a hope that the "next version" will include those features. In most cases, the "next version" DOES have some or all of the wishlist-ed features - however, to wait for something simply cuz you want to wait until it's better - you'd be waiting forever - because there's always going to be something better and better.

I can dig that, but I think he meant people who want something REALLY BAD, but convince themselves to wait :D That, I do find funny. Most of these people sound like they feel it is the smarter thing to do. For example;
I bought the 1st gen iPhone, and my-corker was ALWAYS playing with it, couldn't take his hands off it, but he waited an entire year torturing himself. He later got the iPhone 3g. Boy did he feel like he made a smart choice. Then a few months later, I upgraded to the 3gs (from the 1st gen iPhone) :D Needless to say, he felt a bit silly then. This cycle continues on and on...

For this product however, I totally understand why you would want to wait. I'm not even all that excited about it myself. I'm just tired of using the iPhone as my music interface in the car. So for me, the Pad works because all I pretty much need is a bigger screen that will run GPS apps.

Awesome, laugh away.... oh, oh, wait, this just in...

NEWSFLASH: different strokes for different folks.

If someone has their reasons for deciding they want to wait, that's their business, isn't it?

I like the "Relax People" message that you're trying to spread :)

I'm only offended by your HELLO:rolleyes:

To destroy your logic: Maybe the next "better" will be better enough for those people, and then they will buy it.

Just because someone is waiting for something better, doesn't mean they'll always be waiting.

The HELLO wasn't meant to offend, it was more like I was talking to you guys as if I was just chattin' with old friends. HELLO, it's technology! Like that.

And you didn't destroy my logic, but you made a point that for everyone, there will be a certain point when that particular version is just right - but in general, a better (i.e., more/better features, etc) one is always around the corner. So to wait for a next version for more features, it just seems like you'd wait a long while.

Case in point, IF they added a camera to the next one - people would still be like, okay, there's a camera now, but I'm gonna wait for USB ports on the NEXT one. (Not EVERYONE would think that, but my point is, there is always more we can dream of and "wait" for)

After watching the intro video on apple.com/ipad and am currently downloading the keynote, I have to agree. I think we are all underwhelmed.

I'm not really impressed by the interface. ... A miniature dock?! And also, IMHO, the apps are too far apart. Maybe some people disagree with me. But I don't think there's an option.

Like Redboxcar said, allowing USB ports would be good. While USB ports are useful (Transferring data), I don't think they are meant to be always plugged in.

Scenario: Your USB is plugged in to your iPad, and it's lying on the desk. You're late for a meeting so you're in a hurry-You grab it by a corner and the USB manages to snap while you pick it up.

Or something like that. While it's useful and I agree with the adding of it, there are some limits of adding storage to your iPad.

some will wait and go with other faster and more optioned based products coming out later on this year and some will buy it.

why buy when the future revisions will be wot it should have been in the start, but its all about making money.

sure if i had the extra money id get one,but nowdays i tend not to go on impulse.

By then, Apple would have given them all their desired features, and they'll be so old, they won't know how to use Apple products anymore.

HELLO
And if it doesn't meet my needs now, what's wrong with waiting until it does meet my needs? For me, lack of multitasking is a dealbreaker.
