In general I like Watch OS 10 and am happy with the changes.
Maybe a couple of minor irritations but nothing I’d get worked up over.

I thought I’d be unhappy with the automatic night mode on my Ultra.
But actual it seems to be pretty sensible in implementation and has not been an issue for me.
If anything it has been working better than me doing it manually.

I am happy with the move of the control panel to the button.
I find I am seeing less accidental changes to mode etc.
I also find it much easy to set silent mode or lock the screen now.

The new app view via the crown seems better and an easier way to view them.
Much more logical and intuitive I feel.

Widgets are on, but I’m not really in the habit of using them yet so it’s early days on that.

I like the redesigned apps. Weather especially seems much better to me.
I often use the weather app to check before running, walking the dog out heading out and the new format seems better and easier to use.

A couple of things do irk me I’ll confess.
Firstly, the weekly summary on Fitness no longer shows total step count or distance. I used to find this a useful way to see how week had been.
Secondly I don’t quote see why the swipe to change watch faces is gone, I didn’t use it much but did use it occasionally.
Neither item is a big issue for me.

I can do everything I used to do, and nothing seems any harder.
I know some people dislike the changes, but I guess it comes down to personal preference.

after mostly negative comments, thank you!
when I first learned about the new features, after WWDC, I was skeptical, expressed that in comments here in the forum.

I pre-ordered the Ultra 2 so as soon as 10.0 was released I updated my Ultra 1 to get familiar with the OS.
It took some time, but I am used to all the new gestures/swiped/buttons etc, sure different, but not a big deal.

The 1 thing I have no use for are widgets, I'm one who has their phone always with them, so if I want to look at data, I pull out the phone and enjoy the larger screen. What I find irritating is that with 10.1 there are now 3 ways to get to the widgets or Smart Stack: swipe up, crown and double tap - that is WAY TOO MUCH in my book, esp the crown movement brings up the widget screen many times during the day which for me is annoying.
I have tried the widget thing for a couple weeks but eventually deleted them all ...

overall I'm neither liking nor disliking watchOS 10, my AW is as useful to me as ever

Apple is still not optimizing the screen space and use small fonts in areas that could easily take larger numbers and letters. No all of us have perfect 20-20 vision and those who do, it will not last forever.
maybe play with the font size and see if that helps?

Thank you for this thread. I was just thinking about posting the same thing. A lot of people who don't like watchOS 10 hate it because they're using really clunky workarounds (like excess watch faces to see information instead of just using widgets, for example) and now Apple has made a better solution. Of course, not all apps have widgets but for that i'd encourage people to review and leave feedback for the developer. This isn't Apple's fault.

watchOS 10 took me weeks to actually enjoy but now I love it.

I am 52 at until recently have not had any degradation of reading, seeing near (my far sight vision is still 20/20), but seeing some of the data on the watch faces is getting difficult. Date, Sunrise/Sunset complication, etc. So I too would like customizable font sizes for watch face complications.

You must be joking.
The new weather app is horrible.
First you need an extra swipe to get to the 12-hour-ring, then the colors and fonts are barely unreadable.

Before watchOS10, I tap on my weather complication every morning to get an overlook of the day.
With OS10, I don´t do it anymore. App has become pretty much useless for me.

Add I say personal preference. There is no right or wrong.
And since 10.1 if I go to weather via the complication it takes me to the 12 hour ring.

As for colours and fonts, I don’t have any issue with them and they are clear to me.
I’m in my 50’s with naff vision and wear varifocals, but I can imagine some people with different colour perception or vision quality may struggle.

I use widgets quite much… I love the new Snoopy face (I saw new animations with 10.1) and it has no complication on it, so I use widgets for other info like weather time zone and so on.

I’m getting accustomed to the new dock, had to forget positioning on the big hexagon but if I have patience I can rearrange.

Suggestions for improvement… possibility to personalise SmartStack from the Watch app on the phone, as well as custom trainings (with possibility to control two metrics like pace and heart rate or cadence at the same time) and arrival time on the same screen of navigation in the (otherwise improved) Maps app.

I actually like the weather app the way it is now. It's more information than before.

Long press the watch face, then you can swipe to change. It's still there, but there's a long press first. Personally, I prefer this as it prevents inadvertently changing the watch face.
I totally get that, and it’s not a big issue.
But as nothing else is using the swipes not sure why they removed it.
Although as I say I no longer inadvertently change watch faces.
👍

What would you have them switch that gesture to, that you'd accidentally activate every few days instead? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Swiping up & swiping down can get accidentally activated too, but of course in those cases a quick press of the crown resets it to where it was. When you change faces, it's a totally different situation. Offhand I can't think of any other functions for side-swipe with an easy "Revert" like that.

My only gripes are

1) the crown spins to Siri widgets by default which is annoying on watch faces with features designed for crown scrolling (like sunset faces). Could just have a toggle if the crown should default to one behavior or the other because it’s really annoying constantly tapping to trigger behaviors when I used to be able to just scroll the crown.

2) you can no longer swipe to change watch faces without push and holding. The Siri widgets are meant to eliminate the need for multiple watch faces (something I don’t prefer) which again…why not give us a toggle for whether or not we want swiping on or push and hold. Swiping to my next watch face shows me what I want I don’t want to scroll through a Siri wheel of widgets.

Apple has inserted a bunch of extra steps and pushes for what used to be a really seamless and efficient process of organizing information.

Fair comment, and the reason it was not a big issue for me.
😀👍

Ok, didn´t know of the loss of the swipe ´cause I was not on 10.1.
Thanks for reminding me to update the watch.

For me the single biggest issue is that I see the widget or Smart Stack screen at least 5 times per day without me willingly enabling it - accidental crown movement.

There needn’t be 3 ways to invoke that screen, granted double tap is only available on S9/U2 but swiping up and crown movement means 2 ways for 1 feature for everyone on watchOS 10 …

So I went through various settings in the watch app again today and found “wake on crown movement” ind display/brightness turned on. I turned it off and when the watch is asleep moving the crown does not bring up the widgets. Gonna see how this works longer term with the accidental widget screen mentioned earlier…

I am happy with WatchOS 10.1. I like night mode on the Ultra, Double Tap, and the new Ultra watch face.

I get some like the old way of using the watch but, griping about it now is wasted time, in my opinion.

No matter what Apple does, there are going to be people here who complain no matter what. Stop getting hung up on minutia aspects of usage. Does the main functional aspects of the watch meet your needs? If the answer is yes, then move on with more important things in life than complaining on MR every day about swipe screen being gone and other nitpick stuff.

Nobody is beat up about it but to dismiss griping as a waste of time in a massive post that is entirely complaining about people who complain is a true internet moment

My original intent on the post was to give a more positive feedback than some I’d seen.
Hopeful I managed that.
😀👍🤔

Ooooh. Good suggestion. Will try it, too.

I too like WatchOS 10 on my S8. Nothing is perfect but WatchOs 10 overall is a step in the right direction.

One major thing I did miss was the dock, and the workaround as suggested in this forum is to change the App view to Grid View. I have had App view set to List view ever since I've had the apple watch the last 5 years. Now with Grid View, the most commonly used apps (especially 3rd party) are customized to the exact location I choose. So when pressing the crown once, I get all the apps I need in one screen to select from. Once I got used to this, it's been very quick for me to access apps, and I don't miss the dock anymore.

One major improvement is the weather app. Yes there were bugs (e.g disappearing complications, default city set as current location draining battery, etc), but I think the design is improved with a more intuitive way to access the weather data. The old weather app was good but did lack some data, so it was limited. The new weather app has more useful weather data on my watch, and I am now finding myself reaching less for my phone to check the weather.

I like some things about it. Having a button that said "don't send" instead of "send" after composing a text with Siri never made sense to me. The double tap gesture is great.

100% cosigned. I will never stop wanting 3rd party watch faces because after this many years I don't have a lot of faith that Apple will give me one that I want.
