I've been a regular for a while, just hanging out.

It's weird though, today (well Thursday), I lost my beagle, Lady. I haven't slept in 48 hours. Losing a pet is like losing a part of yourself. She'd been sick for a day or so but I stayed up with her because I knew it was the end.

I don't know, I just had to get this off my chest. She's was a great dog and a really great best friend.

RIP Lady. You're better off now, no more pain or suffering.

Did she run away? Or did you euthanize her? Either way, I'm very sorry.:(

I had to have her put down. She was really sick and the look in her eyes was the look of "I'm really tired and it's okay to let go. I'm ready to go."

It's just comforting to know she's not in pain anymore. :(

I am terribly sorry for your loss. if it makes you feel a little better though, be comforted in knowing that she passed away peacefully, with you around. When we lost our cat (13 years old) .. he was run over.. and we found his body on a street covered with ants and flies :( It was the worst thing ever.

Just remember the good times you had with her, don't keep thinking of the day you saw her go.. everytime I think of all the fun times I've had with my kitty.. it brightens up my day :)

oohh im so sorry to hear that

about 3 days ago we found a baby cockateal, its so tame and its in love with feet. we have been putting flyers everywhere looking for its owners. its a beautiful thing

Thank you for all the kind replies. I haven't been able to sleep. Some people will just say she was just a pet, but to me she was a member of the family.

I just feel so guilty over the decision, was there more I could have done?

I don't know...:(

I hope I did. Without going into detail, she'd been up all night and couldn't sleep. She vomited blood 4 or 5 times and she was just done fighting. :( She was 13 1/2 years old, she had a really good run. I just wish I could have done more or, childishly, I wish I had more time. I just feel hopeless in that decision I made.:(

That's terrible and I'm sorry. I don't know what I'm going to do when it's time to say goodbye to my dog. Probably drown myself in Ben and Jerrys for a month. It's so hard to let go. I wish you the best. :(

Thank you. I was hoping today (the day after) would be better but it still hurts.

I'm going to try calling the Iams Pet Grief line. I just feel lost.

im geting a 9week old puppy 2morrow, having 2nd thoughts now. nah ill still get her, just not looking foreward to the day when she has to go...

sorry once again

Sorry for the loss, I know it sucks, we lost our cat a few months ago, tore me up inside.

Hope you can start to feel better.

I know what its like to lose a dog. I left mine a few months ago. It can hurt for a long time, especially when you expect him/her to be in certain places at certain times. At least you know that your dog was had a full life, at that she is now out of pain. You should also know that you made her the happy dog she was.

Stay strong. I feel really sorry for you.

I'm here if you need someone to talk to.

When I first read the title, I thought you meant she got loose or ran away. That would be even harder for me. Not knowing where she was, if she was alive or dead...

At least you know where she is.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I've been there quite a few times over the years... it's unbelievable the profound effect these quadrupeds can have on our lives - the massive power of unconditional love!

But at least you can feel good about giving her a lovely life... all dogs should be so lucky.

Grieving is always hard, but I wish you the best in getting through it.

Sorry to hear that...I know my dogs are people to me(maybe even better, because they don't judge me)

Try and take pleasure in the memories you have with her.

I lost my dog 8 months ago and the pain is still there. He was 15 and it was time to go but that didn't make it any easier to say goodbye. There comes a point when you have to decide when is the right time to let go and let the animal have peace. While is might be painful for you now just remember that the dog is at peace. I am at the point of remembering the good times.

Definitely get her. Dogs are just a wonderful privilege that we get to have in life. Without them, we wouldn't know what unconditional love is.

Thanks for the kind words. They mean a lot in this really hard situation.
