Beautiful dog...sorry about your loss.

I had a beagle once. He did two years ago at the age of twelve...it's very sad seeing a best friend go, and it's OK to cry. I'm not going to tell you "you'll get over it" - because you never will completely get over it. Your beagle had a special place in your heart that is now gone...I know that you will be sad every time you think about her, and that's ok. The best we can do is try and "Cope". Don't try and "forget" about her - it's best to just remember all of the great times you had with her, and to remember that she lived a long, great life. If you remember her for all the good times you had, it won't hurt as much, and you'll be able to carry on (but not forget). Memory is all you have left of her...it is precious.

I hope you feel better.

That's a very sweet picture. It's always hard but don't beat yourself up about it. She had a good and long life, and that's what counts.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It sucks. When my wifes Sheltie passed, it was very hard. Sir Jacob. We will never forget him. Always remember the good times.

Thanks everyone.

Yeah, it's a very great picture of the two. Rheon (the small dog, a min pin) is taking it very hard. He's constantly walking around trying to figure out where Lady is at. I've been taking him for walks (and me too) to get my mind off of everything and remember the good times. He likes it until we get home then he runs around again looking for her.

You're right about the coping part. That's exactly what I'm trying to do. I've been writing down all the great memories I can of her, well over a page so far. I'm much better than I was the other day but like some have said, I'll always remember her and carry a piece of her around with me in my heart. I'll be sad from time to time knowing I can't see her but at the same time I'll always smile knowing of all the great times I had with that wonderful beagle!

Thank you everyone. It means a lot to me for the support.

Growing up I had a Scottish Terrier - Scotty (Beam me up!). He had a long wonderful life. Take comfort in your dog had one too. I still sort of miss mine.

I do look forward to my next dog. My next "Star Trek" dog will be a Beagle, "Porthos" like Capt. Archers! (I've always wanted a Beagle too - a Snoopy fan growing up).

Take care - you are not alone...

Beagles are the greatest. They can be stubborn and troublesome from time to time but they have soo much love and will always be there to be your guardian and protector. I thank God for mine, he sent me an angel to get me through all the hard times I faced in the years after she came into my life. That's why it's so hard now because my comforter isn't here but I know she wouldn't want me to be sad over her.

I don't know, I just had to get this off my chest. She's was a great dog and a really great best friend.

RIP Lady. You're better off now, no more pain or suffering.

Ahhhhh. I know how this goes all too well! It's such a difficult decision. And while it may be an echo, I'm truly sorry for your loss. May your dog RIP. Love the pic, be sure to hold onto as many as possible. They do wonders. :)

Yeah it was. Quality of life for her vs. what my family and I wanted. In the end we figured that it was best for her in the long run. It maybe sound like an echo but it really means a lot to me that people on a forum can still say nice things and words of encouragement.

Right now we're trying to get as many photos we can of her together. From the day my grandparents and I picked her up in '93 all the way down to about an hour before she passed on. I'm going to have them bound in a book.

Also I want to add that you shouldn't be afraid to get another dog. no dog will every replace your beagle...or even come close to it, but opening your heart up to another pet may give you some joy, as it will for your other dog. You'll probably want to wait a bit, but you should definitely not feel guilty or as if you're replacing your beagle with a new dog. Your little dog will appreciate the company and they'll become great friends. Memory is the best tribute you can give to your beagle.

I know how that feels. Just before I was born my parents got an Alsation (Deek) to keep their other dog company. I was brought up with Deek by my side. He died of cancer when we were both 13. Fantastic dog. To this day I can remember his last day so well.

A couple of years later we got a rescue dog (Muffy, a labradoodle) who is now old and sick too. But she keeps surprising us by not giving up herself. Shes around 11-14 years old now. I remember the first day we got her I was stroking her thinking "You're never going to replace Deek". And I was right, she never has. She's different and another great animal.

Never be afraid to get another pet. Whatever they are, birds, cats, dogs. They're companions and friends :)

Yeah, I know... I've been thinking about that more and more the days after she was put down. Especially after the Miniature Pincher we have has started to realize that Lady isn't coming home. I'll take him for a walk and he seems to forget about everything. As soon as we get back he runs around the house to all the places he knows that Lady would be laying/sitting. It's heartbreaking!

I have to start thinking about it sometime next month about getting him a companion because all he's ever known is companionship. He's always had his mother/siblings then Lady for the last six years. All he does right now is lay around between walks. :(
