I've had to restore it twice and I've owned it exactly one month. Once BEFORE I jailbroke and last night after I did the unlock (I don't think it was BECAUSE of the unlock, mind you.) Restoring isn't so bad, except for the time it takes resyncing music, podcasts and movies. The real worry is it happening when I don't have access to my computer to fix it. I feel like I have to take my computer somewhere just in case my phone gets stuck on the boot screen. It should be easier now that I've got SSH setup, but I still need a computer to get into the phone to fix it. I really love Apple's products including my phone, but it's by far the most unreliable thing I've purchased from them. Granted I'm not a rocket surgeon, but it seems like it would be relatively simple to make sure the phone never is stuck unable to boot. Maybe have some kind of safe-mode where you can fix whatever is wrong right from the phone.

I could be misreading your post but it sounds like the two times you restored had to do with your hacking the iPhone. If so, how is this a poor reflection on Apple's stock iPhones? This sounds like those restores happened 100% because of something you did that's unsupported by Apple.

BTW MobileSubstrate, the environment that lets you run system hacks, has a safe mode it reverts to if your hacked phone detects an error. Although MS installs with WinterBoard, SBSettings, etc., you can install it manually.
