I just wanted to start a thread about how much I (and hopefully others) enjoy their AppleTV. I bought it about 2 months ago and have finally finished ripping all of my movies. I have rented on my AppleTV and have been pleasantly surprised by the quality. This is an amazing machine that I wished I had bought earlier. It's saved me I don't know how much money, because I rent and didn't want to have a NetFlix subscription. Oh my, this thing is great and I can't even imagine if the DVR ability comes to fruition, because I will be first in line.

My ATV just came on Friday and so far I do really love it. I haven't ripped any movies or anything and probably won't just yet, but I can say I'm pretty impressed. What isn't as impressive (but known at time of purchase) was the lack of any cables to connect it to a computer. I immediately thought of Ikea when I saw this. Reason being is if you've ever gone to Ikea and bought something that was supposed to be hung on a wall you'll know there is a little note in the packaging that says "not all walls are created equal" and it goes on to say something about buying your own screws!

I saw the ATV and lack of any such way to connect it straight out of the box to a TV funny. There seem to be two choices and I would say for the price Apple could toss in some component cables for cheap. Like I said, I was very well aware of this when I bought it but something tells me some others may not be. Luckily the HDMI cable that is on back order from Apple's site (3 weeks) is available from the actual manufacture and I already owned some extra component cables.

One thing ATV does that I am certain was highly thought of by Apple was it urges you to buy more from iTunes. It is too easy not to. ATV replaces my digital/DVR TV box. I only have basic cable in my place and the lack of any DVR capabilities really sucked as I'm not much of a weekday TV watcher. I have spent a fair amount on buying missed episodes of my favorite shows in the last week preparing for ATV and once connected I sat my ass on the couch and bought more!

One thing I did not know and maybe I am wrong about this, but you can't seem to buy a movie straight from ATV. I've gone to "All HD" under movies as well as searched out old titles and it seems I only get the option to Rent HD, Rent (regular) and preview. Perhaps this is user error.

At any rate, I am pleasantly surprised by this little machine. It was a gift because I couldn't see spending $350 on something like this but now that I have it I can say I would buy it all over again if I had to.
