I have been a Windows guy for over 30 years and just bought an iMac, with the great Black Friday prices. I retired five years ago, have had an IPhone since the 3G, an iPad and Apple Watch, so it seemed like it was the right time to get a Mac. I always wondered why Mac people seemed to love their machines so much, now I know. I love my iMac. It really is an incredible piece of hardware and OSX is truly a very nice operating system. It is certainly much easier for people that have never used a computer; and most enjoyable for those of us that have used them most of our lives.

I have been the neighborhood techie, helping my neighbors with their PC problems. Two of my neighbors got iMacs over the last year. They never have problems anymore. I have helped them with their Macs, but the issues are more understanding how to do things, rather than real issues, like they used to have.

I still have Office 365, although, the Windows version is better; but this is better for me than Numbers. From now on, I will sing the praises of Apple even more.

I read a lot of complaints about Apple on this site; but life is certainly better with Apple than Microsoft, at least for my products.

That's good for you. Although I disagree because right now Windows 10 is way more stable and polished than MacOS :D

Nice post. It's great to hear these stories because it is very easy to get bogged down in this idea that Apple is losing their touch or their focus, especially on the Mac platform. Stories like this remind you that they really still have a good thing going.

I actually had to install Windows on my iMac yesterday to run some legacy software and it had been about four years since I had last used a Windows machine (which was at a job). I couldn't believe it is still how it is. Nothing makes sense. Everything is slow. For example I tried to connect a Bluetooth device and it turns out clicking "Bluetooth" in the task bar doesn't actually open the settings panel - it actually turns Bluetooth off, leaving me without a mouse or a keyboard with no warning like you'd get on macOS. Who designs this stuff! :D

I bought my 27" with 3.4GHz I5, 512 GB SSD...also picked up 16GB of Crucial Ram...and got a great price from Gazelle on my 2011 iMac. Was undecided between the 21.5 and 27...but so happy I chose the latter.

Also have iPhone 7 and iPad Pro 9.7, which will be upgraded when the 2018 iPads are released.

I made the big switch from Dell/Windows/various smartphones to all Apple in 2011...and will never go back. Everything works so well together, which is especially important to someone my age (retiring next year).

Glad you are doing well with the switch! I've also used Windows for years, though I've taken occasional delves into the MacOS world since the G4 days. The initial cost is a little high if you're used to PC bargains, but you do get nice hardware.

the truth......

What.. osx is far beyond matured yet..Yeah it hassle free.. but un-perfect much.

Congrats, on your new baby :)

I love my iMac its been a great addition to my family. I've been a long time Mac user, but its been a very long time since I had a desktop and even longer since owning an iMac (bondi blue iMac). OS X is a nice stable feature reach OS, I don't really have any major complaints.

I bought an iMac in June as my first desktop. I love it. Sleek, powerful, amazing display and works more elegantly than the MacBook Pro, monitor, stand, cable frenzy I had before.

While Windows 10 is the best version yer, I still vastly prefer macOS. Font rendering is superb, I find it more intuitive, and straightforward. Smooth scrolling and gesture support is much better.

MacOS feels like a consumer oriented OS. Windows still feels like an admit IT OS shoehorned into a consumer product.

Same here. Sent off my rMBP to Apple and upgraded to the iMac in September. No regrets.

I'm glad Windows 10 worked for you. I could never get it to work correctly, attempted both in-place upgrade as well as fresh install. Had problems with both configurations -- random restarts without notice, BSOD, etc...

Complains are mostly from old mac user. MacOS is stable for most part but it is far from how good it was in the past (I would have never changed snow leopard if possible osx 10.6).
The difference between mac os and windows was like night and day.
I almost went back to windows last year but every time I use my father pc there is always a problem (for example windows like to install its own amd driver and i have to reinstall the one from amd site every time) and I want to flings it to the wall.

If you want to improve the os experience i suggest you to look at:
- totalspaces2
- totalfinder
- spectacle / magnet / mosaic

I've had a lot of Mac computers over the years, including a 27" 2011 iMac. Earlier this year I picked up a refurbished 2015 27" iMac and I have to say that it is one of my all time favorite Macs. The 5k display is great for my Photoshop editing and FCP X work. Even.though I have a 27" Thunderbolt display and 2015 MBP for use at home, I'm tempted tp pick up a refurbished 2017 iMac too!

Windows is okay and Microsoft does an admirable job maintaining its compatibility on systems and software that date back far longer than Apple’s latest transition.

But it has no soul.

It’s practical and does its job, but lacks character. The pixels are there to let the machinery underneath operate, not to provide an engaging experience.

That said, I’m dreading setting up Windows 10 on my soon to arrive iMac Pro in the next few days (my gaming PC runs Windows 7).

Perhaps one of the Windows “lovers” in this thread could direct me to a quick guide on turning off the spyware? I’d prefer not to broadcast to Redmond that I’d just received a new iMac Pro.

I've been a Windows user since 3.1 and purchased my first Mac computer (15" MBP) last year. Purchased my first iMac 2 months ago. Contrary to how many people praise Windows 10, MacOS is waaayyy more stable, and it is a joy to use something different after so many years. I've fallen in love with Apple products in general.

If wanted hassle free , osx and chrome book is better for old user..

But, osx is just a unix in flavour but still it lack ability like other linux flavour.

Osx also have virus but quite rare compare to popular Windows 10 ..

Consumer windows are pretty bad polish compare to Server Version.. I prefer all the server version instead of consumer win 98 , win 7, win 10.. Windows 2008R2 the best edition till Microsoft take away graphic card ability. !What Microsoft ..

Memory management is OSX pretty bad till a lot of here opting the highest memory if available.

Finder is OSX still annoying and i prefer windows search bar key in address.. Even thou, it not practical for normal user to bunch into hidden folder.

OSX need . for upper folder instead of using arrow + command.

Linux flavour before are totally hard to used before, but now ubuntu are making the appearance in the block..

For Me

Normal User

Windows-> OSX -> Ubuntu

A little got money user

OSX -> Windows -> Ubuntu

Office User

Windows -> Ubuntu -> Open Suse -> OSX

** there is movement to changed to open source world

Power User

Any Linux Flavour -> Microsoft OSX ..

There is no bullet proove Operating System since i used various of version OS like red hat, fedora, ubuntu, debian, open suse, osx
