I had a HP TouchSmart laptop that worked beautifully software wise, much less trouble than OS X that I've had. If you know how to maintain a computer system, it really doesn't make much of a difference unless you screw it up.

The BIG problem with HP is their crappy quality control and their even worse support. Something wrong with your HP? Tough luck getting anything done quickly. You get a copy of Win7 loaded full of bloatware, shoddy battery life, trackpad, build quality, heat issues... these small things really get in the way of enjoying your purchase and the worst thing is that there's nothing you can do at home since the main problem is flaky hardware.

3 hour battery life (with extended batt pack), core temps of 70-90 deg??

I liked the build quality and battery life of my mac (10hrs for 2010 13 inch) so much that it made using a laptop actually enjoyable rather than a chore.

What microsoft should do is cut out mac support for windows 8, bet that would have apple's market share. "You want to dick around with us? Fine. We'll dick around with you. And guess what, it'll hurt you far more if we do than you can hurt us."
Impossible. Unless MS wants to also cut out support for Windows users with the similar hardware.

But microsoft does not do this because, in a way, they don't want to use sticks and stones to beat the consumer into buying their products. In that way, are they a better company? I'll leave you to decide but I already know what you will say.
No, MS doesn't do this because then they'll lose money. Do you really think they make Office for Mac because they want to be a good company? No, it's because they make a nice profit off of it.

I dont think the built quality of HP can ever be comparable to Apple.

For Apple, you are not only paying for the spec but for its OS as well.

If you are happy with your current mbp, just keep it.
