MBP 2016 (2 top case replacements)this dude also doesnt ahve one you can tell cuz hes whining
Today I received my third MBP 2018. The first two went back because of keyboard problems. In the first one, some keys (especially E) registered twice. I installed Unshaky, but decided a €2500 computer shouldn't require extra software to make the keyboard usable. The second machine was worse. I, O, T, K, A registered twice. E registered once, twice...or not at all. In the last two days I sometimes had to really bang on the E key to get it to work.
So far the third one works perfectly. Four hours and counting!
As for the feel and sound, I love this keyboard, even though it seems I manage to accidentally press Space every now and then. I had the same problem with the previous two and with the 2016 rMB, so it's probably something I do, even if I have no clue exactly what that is. Mostly the extra spaces happen when I'm using the bottom row, which makes sense (sort of?), but the one I returned today added spaces completely randomly, no matter which keys I was actually pressing. Third time lucky, I hope. Customised Touch Bar + the membranes + the feel of the keys = the best keyboard I ever used. When it works.
yah the keyboard is amazing. the complaints have all been from people who don't own one
Wrong wrong wrong. Do your research before you post. Ninety nine percent of the keyboard complaints have been from folks who own 2016/17 MBP's and have had repeated problems with the keyboard. Make Google your friend next time and the light in your head will glow oh so brightly.
It’s not corner cutting because it’s more expensive than using the traditional keyboard.I've been typing for over 50 years. I have to change now because Apple wanted to cut costs? I never had a device that demanded I change my typing approach. I use external keyboards now on Macs with butterfly keyboards. Otherwise, I get a lot of joint pain.
Then they are complaining about the reliability, not the feel of the keyboard when it is working properly.Wrong wrong wrong. Do your research before you post. It’s not a step back because you don’t max out the volume with a single click of the volume up key either. They both require more than one press, but a maximum of two on the TB.Just trying this keyboard out right now. I'm actually pretty ok with the reduced travel. I lived through everyone's rage at the original unibody chicklet keyboard in 2008, so hopefully I'll survive this time too.
Reliability I guess will remain to be seen, but my main gripe will forever remain the Touch Bar. I just tried to change the volume, and that "trick" of immediately dragging on the volume button is (a) messy visual UX having your finger be offset from the slider, and (b) broken because depending on the starting state of the slider, you actually run your finger off the Touch Bar before you finish your adjustment, meaning the only really reliable way to change audio or brightness now takes multiple steps. so thats a "step" backwards in my book.

These are completely two separate problems please don’t mud the water with your poor logic.

Double standards people, do you know what that means?
I love the X1 Carbon keyboard as well. I am the same boat as you I love the 2016,2017 and 2018 keyboards as well. I'm not really sure why I like both but anyway. I find I cannot stand the old full travel keyboards like the Cherry MX or IBM style keyboards. Even though I'm so old that when I learned to type, that was "State of the Art".I use an X1 Carbon at the moment and the keyboard is great, especially the key travel. But I tried the new mbp keyboard in a store a few weeks ago and it instantly felt good to me. I also kinda like the sound it makes.
