I need a good reason to tell my parents so I can sell my iPod touch 2g for a 4g thanks.

To be honest, there are no "good" reasons that will convince your parents. The best one is probably the camera, but do you have a camera?

These features appeal to me, but perhaps not your parents:
~ retina display
~ A4 Processor
~ 2x RAM
~ better speaker
~ looks nicer

All of its new features

I would have to agree wholeheartedly with wordoflife. I currently have a iPod touch 2G. I will be selling it for peanuts, as I'm sure an 8GB is only worth now, and will be receiving the 64GB version of the 4G for the holidays. I would definitely argue that there has been remarkable improvements since the 2G, namely the following: Retina display, HD camera/video recording, A4 processor and...it's new :D

I hope you gather the facts and win the desired outcome with your parents!

Cheers!

RAM is still 256mb

Whoops, was thinking of the 3rd gen. They really should have put in 512 though :/

tell them all the others Kids have one ... and you are being left out of the cool iPod group

The way I see it is that if you cannot come out with the reasons to upgrade to a 4G and need to ask us about it then it is most likely that you do not have anything from the 4G which you need.

Enjoy your current iPod Touch 2g until it dies and probably get a 5G or 6G when it appears.

I'd say because the 2nd gen is severely underpowered to run the latest software. Since you cannot run the latest software efficiently an upgrade is the only thing that will fix the issue. Since the 2nd gen is now obsolete and will no longer be able to run the latest applications..

that's what I'd say. Everything is far too demanding for it to keep up.

In a sense this is true. More and more apps are being updated to be iOS4 only and some are only supporting A4 now.

Like others have said, there is no good reason to update. The only reason I would think your parents might understand is if you need a larger capacity device. Honestly, I would just keep the iPod you have now and use it as long as it is still functioning. You won't get much for it if you try and sell it, and in my opinion, there aren't enough feature differences between 2g and 4g to justify an upgrade as long as the iPod you have now works.

~battery
~storage? (maybe)
~runs smoothly and runs the newest apps

Thanks guys

I told my parents a gud reason so for my birthday there's giving 140 and told me I would have to sell my 2g.

The 4th gen also has a built-in microphone which the 2nd gen does not. You could claim that you'd use it to record lectures. ^^

Tell them iPod touch now can do video chat, so they can always watch you with the camera. Use ur head and make stuff up. Dont tell them it works only on wi-fi.
