I am trying to make a year in review slide show to share at Christmas containing both pictures and home movie clips. I am using imovie to capture my movie clips, and idvd to make the slide show. I can't figure out how to capture video clips from a dvd. I have a sony handycam that records directly onto a mini dvd. No usb cable. I transferred my home movies to a dvd and put the dvd in my mac, but I cannot access the dvd in imovie. HELP! By the way, I am very computer ILLITERATE. Please speak slowly and use small words. Thanks!

INSERT YOUR DVD INTO COMPUTER IF NOT DONE YET

1. Download "Handbrake" (search it in Google)

Look for this on the Left hand side of the website

Click download for the GUI (Universal Binary, DMG):

If you don't have Leopard click this:

2. It will be a DMG file once downloaded

3. Open the DMG it by double-clicking the icon

4. Double-click the Handbrake icon

5. It will ask for a Volume. In other words, the DVD

6. Select the DVD from the menu

7. It will scan the DVD

8. There will be a menu that lists the scenes on the DVD:

9. Select the scene you want to get off the DVD.

10. Select you download location. It should already say your desktop is the download location. Leave it like that to simplify this process:

11. Click the Green circular Start button on the top of the Handbrake window.

12. The movies clip will begin to download. Once finished open it to see if it worked.

- Write back if anything bad happens!

Still need help with idvd

First of all, bravo John Doe 57! I have no idea what I am doing, and your instructions were fantastic! I have, however, encountered a problem. I downloaded my movie clip, and it did appear on my desktop as you said it would. However, my clips are not complete. In the handbrake window it says my clip shoud be 16 minutes, and when I play the clip, it only lasts 5 seconds. I'm not sure what to do to fix this. It does seem to be working, I just can't get it to download the entire title, just a second from the beginning of each chapter. Any help? Thanks!
