I need help with purchasing RAM.

hello,
I have a 2008 iMac and was wondering what's the max Ram it can hold. I searched and some threads said 4GB and some said 6GB so I'm very confused right now. Does anyone know for sure?

It is my impression that the 2008 iMacs can only take 4GB and that 6GB only works on the laptops.
