I have the number of the 15 Pro, provided by the seller. Is there a place to go on Apple's website to check out and see if the machine is legit?

(It's also an overseas transaction. Is PP still the easiest way of dealing with this?)

No, but you can try calling them

This site will at least tell you if if specs they are giving you match up and when it was made. And don't let the Dutch on top throw you off as there is English below it:

Calling Apple will yield the same results and they can tell you how long is left on the warranty if there is one left at all.
