So I stopped taking my mental health medications, for personal reasons.

That same night, my Sleep Score plummeted, and I hardly got any sleep.

I restarted all medications yesterday, and I’m pleased to say I got some sleep last night.

No longer do I think the sleep features on Apple Watch are a gimmick 👍🏻.

It's a fun curiosity for me, but I wish it'd be able to distinguish between a nap and an actual night of sleep. The nature of my job has me taking naps at strategic times, and that two hours of sleep is always reported as Very Low.

"Very low? That nap was glorious!" 🙂

Hope you start getting better sleep while off the meds, TCR. I'm sure it'll come with time.

I always enable Sleep focus, manually, when I intend to sleep.

Maybe try that, bud?

I had three Low Scores on sleep score on last week of February, mainly because I had hours of refactoring and finishing touches + getting my Swift student challenge app ready for submission.

Didn’t want to submit it on the dot so I stayed up rly late like I was doing my AutoCAD homework in summer school back in the day.

Back into reality.

Glad you're back on your meds my friend.
While I don't feel that sleep tracking is a "gimmick", I'm still struggling to understand how to read the data and improve my sleep (typical for me is a mid 70 or so score). So I'm kinda ignoring the score itself but still use the tracking to get my vitals.
Take care my friend

Cheers, bud.

I don’t fully understand it, myself, as I tend to wake up multiple times during the night, and get marked down for that.

All I do know is that my score plummeted, when I was off of my medication, so that has made me value the score.

Wishing you sweet dreams, my friend 😉.

yea, I tend to wake up multiple times and I rarely ever get more than a 0 (zero) on my interruptions score, oh well

I think the sleep score desperately needs some user-adjustable weighting. I would want to be prompted for a simple “How rested do you feel?” 1-5 rating and have that factor into the score.

If that was the case, maybe sleep score would realize that for me the actual amount of sleep is way more important than how much I woke up overnight, or whether I got to bed too late. Getting an 85-90 on a night where I got to bed on time but woke up a solid hour too early (and thus got too little sleep) and am exhausted makes zero sense IMO.

The “how rested you feel” metric would also be an additional data point to analyze when (hopefully!) we start to see more meta analysis tools that look across Health data. If you’re feeling tired a lot but are getting enough sleep and are getting enough exercise -- as an example -- that could be something that triggers additional investigation, looking into nutrition, cardiovascular stuff, etc. I feel like Health is ok at gathering a lot of information, but does pretty much nothing about gathering any insights from it. (Also, it’s way WAY past time for us to be able to see and interact with our Health data on Macs.)

I've never paid too much attention to sleep scores tbh, I've just switched back to apple watch from Garmin, and my scores are 10 pointsish higher on Apple than they were on Garmin. I'm a light sleeper who finds it hard to get to sleep so I'm wary of scores of 97 etc that I am getting.

There's times where I wake up refreshed with a 50ish score (on the Garmin) and other times I got 85, and have to consume half of Kenya's annual coffee production to stay awake (I don't usually drink a lot of coffee)

I think it would also be good if the watch could detect the sound of one going a pee, thus could overlook an episode of waking up, and register that event as a pit stop!
Just don't have anything to drink about 2/3 hours from bed. You'll find the desire to go, goes, or it's wake up time when the urge returns.

I have tracked my sleep for years (on iPhone and now Watch) and I wonder why I bother. I tend to get a very high score, my heart rate is low, my vitals are typical, yet I struggle to get out of bed i.e. my alarm goes off and I am knackered.

My wife bounds out of bed with the same or less sleep (she gets up earlier than me).

Maybe speak with your doctor?

I had an overactive thyroid many years ago, and it affected my appetite, weight, and energy levels.
