Hey guys,
I opened up my iPod Video 5.5G in order to fix the middle button and clean it up a little bit. Anyway, when I put everything back together it turns out the headphones work only on the left side. I obviously tried with different headphones and got exactly the same results. Needless to say too, everything was working right before.
The thing is that if I insert the headphones, say, not to the very end but to half of the channel, the headphones will work on both sides, but it must be at a very specific position, which is not practical.
Anyway, I'm guessing that when I dismantled the iPod I might misplaced something by a bit or broken something? Or perhaps I pressed too hard something I was not supposed to? (it would be weird though since I think I was careful).
In any case, what could I check or try, before importing new parts? :(

I'd check to make sure the ribbon cable from the headphone jack and hold switch is seated correctly. If the iPod is well used, it could just be that the headphone jack is worn out. You can get new replacements at eoe (scroll down). Note the there are two sizes, for thin and thick cases, and two colors (black or white).
