I was referring to after the purchase. Do MBP 750GB HDD drives sell for $30 these days?

I'm now leaning on refusing the shipment and buying the base model instead.

More like $75.But still, that means the processor is a $190 upgrade. I do think you should get the base model.

I asked Amazon if I can refuse the MBP and they said yes. So once they they receive it i'll order the base model. :)

Amazon just dropped the price of the base model of the 13" cMBP to $1074.99 so I bought that and the premium cMBP which arrives tomorrow is being sent back.

Any chance the base model could drop further in price?

Yes they could because the Pro should be updated soon. But if they do within 30 days, you can return it and buy the new one at the new low price. But that price is a great deal any way you look at it.

Okay, people need to stop listing upgradeability as a reason why the cMBP is better than rMBP.

The ONLY components you can upgrade are the RAM and HARD DRIVE. You don't upgrade these as often as you all seem to think when touting ugpradeability. So stop fooling yourself that having the option to upgrade these two components in somehow a big deal. It's not.

Being able to upgrade form 8GB to 16GB is so overrated.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Besides the upgrades of the cMBP there are other factors for me as to why I prefer the cMBP over the rMBP.

1) Easier to take apart
2) DVD drive ! (I still use them)
3) 1280x800 resolution. My eyesight is poor as i've gotten older.

The 13" Best for Retina setting looks like 1280x800, just clearer and sharper.

But your other two points are valid.

This is just my opinion but I think the only mistake you made was not getting the base model.

You got the computer because you can upgrade it right? The differences in processor aren't going to be that noticeable. You can upgrade everything else for much cheaper than paying $1399 for the computer.

So again IMHO buying a 13" cMBP is still a good idea but you are paying too much for it at this moment.

I just bought the base model at the refurb store for $1019. I am going to upgrade the RAM to 16GB and put in a 500GB SSD and replace the optical drive with the HDD that comes with the cMBP.

It is replacing an iMac that suddenly wouldn't turn on 2 weeks ago, dead logic board.

WELL....file this under it's too good to be true. I just ordered a NIB 13" cMBP 2012 base model on Amazon for $650 plus $9 shipping from Australia to the US. I contacted the seller if it was NIB or open box refurbished and he said it was NIB and comes with the US AC/Adapter and no import fees.

He said I have a 14 return window after I receive it. I ordered with my Amazon Store card so i'm at least covered under their A-Z program. I know, I know IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE. If it weren't for the fact that i'm using an Amazon payment and the seller said it was NIB I would be even more skeptical.

I will take my lumps from you all if the cMBP turns out to be a " Pet Rock". :D

In 2011 I purchased on Ebay a NIB ThinkPad T410 with a Dual Core i5 with a 3 year Next Business Day Onsite warranty all for $500 and the warranty was verified as legit by IBM service.
