You bring up some good points. So far, I have been less than impressed with cloud security. Stolen information often ends up on the dark web. Bad characters can use it to craft sophisticated attacks such as (but not limited to) customized phishing emails. I am waiting for something like ProtonMail's ProtonDrive to become available before I start using the cloud for personal data. Their solution encrypts the data so that it cannot be read even by them. That means folks that hack their infrastructure can't really do anything with the data that they find.
