Don't know what it was set up as, just went into hotmail site and set it up? Same with the apps, just set it up and they appeared, not sure how would find out whether it is things you are talking about? The i pad is new, had the computer few years, runs on Sierra. Seems with Apple once you've had had things little while they seem keep playing up.Recently couldn't get into computer froze up on the apple logo on starting up page.

Since macOS nor iPadOS have any ability to automatically delete then re-add multiple emails, it sounds like your suspicion that it was something on the server's end is likely correct, especially if you made no changes to how the email account is configured on your devices.

However, do be aware that you should be keeping backups of all your data, including emails. While computers usually do what they're told, things can break, SSDs can fail, and bad aim with a click can result in deleting something you didn't intend to. Backup everything.

Contacted apple, as it's the same when logged in the web browser. Seems problem is with Outlook. Proving impossible to contact microsoft, have to have a microsoft account won't accept hotmail. Joined community forum but won't let me post. So just have hope doesn't happen again. Do archive all important e-mails. Switched to hotmail as previous provider kept messing around. Not very techy don't know how to back up e-mails? Looked up the cloud but says you have set up cloud e mail?
