I played with the Note 8, and now the iphone looks blah

Part of the reason I've started moving away from Apple is that I more and more think that the new Apple's target customer is a 14 year old girl, and I'm not a 14 year old girl. When I see a senior executive of one of the largest companies in the world demonstrating something that was designed for a 14 year old girl, it's not cool. While I do "play" on my phone, I also do real work. I can do more real work with the S-Pen than with animojis.

I don't know why people keep making statements like that. So many businesses are run with iOS products at this point.

I don't think the face tech is about gaming per se but more about future AR application. It's a demo to devs what the tech can do while giving the public a "cute" glimpse of same. Animojis in and of themselves are whatever. I've sent a few, people think the tech is cool but animojis themselves are dumb. I agree with both sentiments.

Well if its a tech demo of AR, its mounted on the wrong side of the phone. And I was just joking about the game, because of the way the post was worded that I was replying to. So much of this new tech that keeps coming out like 3D, AR, etc.. seems to be hammers in search of nails. They are definitely cool for about 30 minutes... then you realize you'll put it on a shelf and never use it again. Apple and others will keep throwing things against the wall hoping to find the next "big thing" that will propel their growth when the market gets saturated.

I think with VR and 3D, you're right. AR, however, seems more likely to stick. One of the best proof of concept apps allows you to measure the distance between objects in a room, for example. Warby Parker's app allows you to perfectly fit glasses on your face to see how they'd look. Animojis could morph into a means to scan your face on to an avatar in a game, in another example of implementation. Etc, etc. I think applications that provide actual real world value and function is entirely possible, and immediately possible, with AR vs VR.

Every time I hear people #%$@$ about the Note 8 being too big, I am baffled. I've used a 6S+ for 2 years and now have a Note 8. They are about the same size, the Note 8 being a little narrower and taller. The Note 8 to me feels nimble and light (to me), compared to a plus sized iPhone. And the much larger display is just gorgeous and smooth. So the Note 8 has never felt heavy or big to me. I use it daily with one hand. And dare I say, my old iPhone 6S+ looks blah in comparison.

The thing is not everyone has the heavy needs we have for a mobile. This is why I have always seen the Note devices as niche.

Lol, people will make any excuse for an iPhone, that's what I have learnt , we just have to live with that just as some have to live with a notch that looks like dead pixels in their phone.

WRT SPen, so many times in my Note 4 and Note8 it has come to my rescue, and also like to today just been such a convenience.Today I put my accurate signature on my Travel Expense Claim at work in Excel, lol, the receptionist thought I'd have to print the Travel Claim out like everyone else and then have to scan it and send, I chuckled and told her I don't need to print anything, I just sign with my phone.

Heck even Apple know the usefulness of a Pen, just look at the iPad Pro, I'm sure they are trying their hardest to create an SPen/Galaxy Note competitor without looking obvious about it.

I swear, when I started hearing reviewers saying they thought the animojis were cool and something they might use, at the same time saying the SPen was something they may not use. All I could think was, yeah sure. These so called tech reviewers lost all credibility with that type of statement. Glad I don't know a single adult in my social circle that finds animojis "cool" or "neat." smh.

Except animoji are a fun thing to use with friends and the SPen is a tool. One will definitely get used more than the other.

Whatever your feelings are about iPhones and iOS and exiting from the system, that’s all fine and dandy. Delta has another opinion about equipping its flight crew with iOS devices and I personally have yet another opinion. You should choose the best option for you; which is always implicit in these discussions.

Lol, it is hilarious, but what I am loving is that Android OEMs and Google have pushed so hard these last 5years that Android is just so intuitive and has become such a force to be reckoned with that even Apple can't help but take features from it, and a lot of people are waking up to it.

Just for a very good laugh, remember when the iFans were here not so long ago, telling us how Apple would implement Wireless Charging "properly"!? What happened to all that trash talk!? All gone very quiet since iPhone 8/8 Plus and X came with the same bog standard wireless charging the Galaxy S6 had in 2015 ,not even Fast Wireless Charging.

So I played with the X, and it’s a solid phone it’s the price that’s a killer plus I think I actually prefer the home button.

I had (have) a 6s iPhone and it’s getting a big sluggish and seems a bit small. I have been wanting to get out of Apple due to all of the rigamore and the whole production they do every year, alongside they didn’t do too much innovation and all their phones feel the same. They also seem a bit money hungry (buy the wireless charger cable & block??)

With that being I went with the Note 8, they’re readily available, can fast charge from the box, innovation and it’s customizable.
It does seem a bit big, and it is overwhelming with that being said I like the phone but one thing I surly miss the SIMPLENESS of the Apple iPhone/IOS.
I don’t use iMessage, iCloud, or FaceTime but I like the ease of use of the device and I’m actually thinking about switching back.

The styless pen is cool but how often will I use it? The settings and so, so many options are great just find myself having too many options.
I could careless about Animojis as well. Apple is just so easy....
going to play with the Note 8 another week or so and make up my mind. (Heck maybe an s8+ might do.)

The 1st problem is that the Pencil needs to be charged, while the SPen draws power wirelessly from the device it's being used with very efficiently. No need to worry about battery life with the SPen or even pairing it, I can immediately use any SPen be it my Note 4 or Note8 one on either device.

The SPen is used for more than just drawing on a Galaxy Note, it can extract Text and other elements from every single thing you Display on the screen, Hover over a link or Image to Expand or get a preview, used to Magnify areas of the display without messing around with anything, it can also help translate Words and entire paragraphs, and all with a very good amount of accuracy.

Seriously, the Apple Pencil actually seems cumbersome in that review, it requires you to charge it from the device making the whole thing look ridiculous, and doesn't have a proper area to sit once you are done with it, like WTF it reminds me of the Stylus pens on older devices like the Samsung Omnia 900 .

My Nexus 5 had wireless charging in 2013 lol. Goes to show how Apple drip feed technology to maximise profit, and Apple users lap it up and defend Apple to the death. Ive never understood it. Both companies are charging what the market will tolerate. That does not equate to the X being a competiting product to the Note 8.

Yes because Android users don't blindly purchase overpriced products because they were made by a certain company. Regardless, Apple have priced the X in the Note 8 price range so thats the phone its going to be compared to. Price is exactly what determines what its competitors are, same goes for anything consumers may want to purchase.
