Yes, you're right. I meant the same thing but didn't make it clear. Yuo can purchase Applecare BEFORE your 1 year warranty runs out:)

Again, sorry for misunderstanding.
I'm pretty sure you have to purchase Applecare BEFORE your 1 year warranty runs out.

Hi, have you considered the early 2011 refurbished MBP is only $800, it is currently OOS, but maybe restock any time. It is only slightly slower than 2012 model, but much faster than 2010 model.

SON OF A.....

I just wasted my lunch hour, went to Best Buy... and they were quite rude about it. They told me it was either the Gift Card for $150 or the $1099 price on the Macbook Pro. They told me to go to Apple and buy it instead.

I hope that MAcbook never sells, and they have to send it back to factory after the next refresh.

I also called the 1-800 Best Buy number, and was also told to go to Apple instead. They are doing one or the other only.

This has definitely been a YMMV promo. There is definitely no uniformity to the policy and you're not the only one that has been met with rude BB employees.

That said....I'd take their advice. Get the refurb. You'll be out the door for under a grand and still have money left over for that ATV you wanted.

Just got my basic 13" 2012 last night (upgrading my 07 15" MBP). Although it may be basic the fact I can tinker with it over the next couple of years (instead of with the air) was my main decision.

That sucks. I would argue that it's within their policy that they have to price match plus you should be able to receive the gift card on top of that. I would try another Bestbuy and if they say the same thing I would say that I am going to Apple and they just lost another customer. No wonder Bestbuy is going down the toilet now a days.

Bestbuy could really care less about giving you a deal on a computer. They don't make any money off of them. It doesn't surprise me at all that they wouldn't give you both. In some cases, they lose money when selling a computer. If you told them you were getting geek squad protection I bet they would honor it in a heartbeat but since you probably weren't going to, it makes total sense.

I e-mailed Apple about it asking them how they can stand behind Best Buy are a reputable reseller of Apple products. I told them my experience, where they told me that it was both the Apple price match plus a gift card, and at check out they tell me they will not honor it, and then was told I should instead go to the Apple Store to purchase it.

I also sent an e-mail to Tim Cook's account. I don't expect a response or that it will even be read, but I just wanted to put my disappointment into words knowing there is a slight chance that it might actually be read.

I went from the same Macbook to a late 2011 MBP then (4 days later, thanks exchange policy) this mid 2012 MBP all 13"

The change of each was quite noticeable (particularly from having a 2009 Acer laptop before the Macbook). The performance gain from the Macbook to the Macbook Pro was very pronounced and noticeable to the 2012. The biggest gain from 2011 to 2012 was in cooling and fan usage which is much improved.

Check out the Apple refurb store. Early 2011 base model MBPs are going for $799 and late 2011 MBPs for $929.

The 2012 upgrade isn't worth the price IMO. I have an early 2011 13" MBP purchased last summer on sale for $900 that I use with a 24" NEC display. I added 8GB of RAM for around $70 from OWC and a Power Support anti-glare film. It runs all my pro apps like Aperture and Photoshop without a hiccup; I'm good for at least another four years.

I can afford any Mac that suits my fancy. One reason that I can do so is because I consider computers to be consumer products instead of lifestyle fetishes. I look for the best deal that meets my needs for 3-5 years, if not longer. Save money whenever possible and avoid unnecessary debt like the plague and you too can be financially secure with less stress in your life.

Or succumb to the epidemic of consumerism and be a wage slave until you croak. It's your choice.

I am sitting on it, and scratching my head if $170 off is really worth the refurbished stigma.

I think it's going to suck using a 5+ year old 10" Windows netbook for 4-5 months to wait to see if a rumor pans out.

I don't mind Windows as much as most people on here, but 10" netbook for that long would suck. I also don't worry about rumors that are too far out. If it comes out in September given that they just refreshed the line, expect it to be a high end option price wise that is added in. It may become the standard later, but typically these things are priced higher initially. I know everyone has their calculators out on the rMBP cost, but they should consider that it's a base configuration. There is no configuration markup attached, and yes that is built into the cto options.

It is a much bigger upgrade than you are thinking. The Geekbench scores (~3500 vs ~6800) are almost double. Nice improvement in GPU as well.

Another improvement would be adding in an SSD drive and moving your other drive to an optibay if you don't use your ODD. That way you get the performance benefit of SSD but still have a regular HDD for storage.

It's nice, but it's not completely necessary. SSDs are nice if you move your laptop around when it's on. The geekbench thing is unlikely to mean much at the moment. You can do the things required by the OP on core2duo hardware.

They're going down the toilet because they've become little more than a showroom for Amazon. Brick and Mortar has it rough these days. I expect sales tax will soon be collected across state lines which would even things out a bit (yes I know you owe it anyway, but many of these people ignore it especially on purchased below the 5 figure level).

I'd say get what you want at that point. Remember the newness will wear off anything. With Apple I usually buy one of the more recent products given that there's no way to know how long Apple will choose to support something.

Is this deal still active? I couldn't find it on their website.

See the last few posts I made. It's dead, and I wasted a lot of time pursuing it. I went to another Best Buy tonight, had printed receipts from other members, details, forums posts, etc... and it was a no go.

I am going to break down and go get it directly from the Apple Store tomorrow.

Best Buy went nowhere. I gave up on them.

I instead went to the Apple Store today, and within 5 minutes I was walking out with a shiny new 13" MBP, AppleTV, $100 iTunes gift card, and the AppleCare.

I am really enjoying both the new MBP and the AppleTV.

I immediately notice the difference between having a 7200rpm hard drive and a 5400 rpm hard drive. There is a slight noticeable delay between clicking on something, and it opening. Can't wait to put a 512GB SSD in here in a few months.

The MBP is so much nicer than the outgoing white Macbook. It seems quieter, cooler, and feels/looks so much nicer.

The AppleTV is really nice!!!! I been using it nonstop. I bought an anime series on iTunes, and it's been streaming from the laptop to the AppleTV. Love that I no longer need to HDMI the laptop to the TV. I can surf the web on it, while sitting on the couch, and on my TV the video is playing. Awesome.

Buy what you want. I don't see anything wrong with what you chose. Enjoy!

EDIT: (6/22/12) I went and purchased it at the Apple Store.

Macbook Pro (2012 13" base model)
AppleTV (I really like it)
AppleCare
Free $100 iTunes Gift Card

What I plan on getting next:

16GB of DDR3 memory (Going to order in the next week or so from Amazon)
Optical Audio Cable (Monoprice or Amazon - whoever is cheaper)

512GB SSD (~November/December will order it)

I was able to playback a 4K resolution video. Seemed like it played fine, without any frame rate drops. So, the video on here is more than capable of doing HD.
