Yeah, seeing stuff like that already has me thinking I should just keep using silver colored phones. I really want the orange color but I can see wear marks coming already even though I am very OCD about cleaning the insides of my cases regularly......

Here is my moms red iPhone 11 bought on launch day the color seems like is discoloring.

Apple obsessively designs its products to be modern and beautiful then everyone slaps them in £20 plastic case making them thicker, heavier and ugly 🤷‍♂️
There’s plenty good looking cases which can enhance the appearance of the phone. Look at the Apple Sienna TechWoven case on the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro, for instance, which improves the phones appearance several times over. I think you’re conveniently forgetting that Apple designs cases also, which are intended to be used with their phones.

It's a preference - I like to see and feel the industrial design.

I normally buy white phones but this time I bought a white and an orange phone. I really like the orange phone but I question the durability of the anodized finish over time even though it’ll be inside a case. I’m very OCD about my phones so I worry the side areas of the orange phone beginning to show signs of wear from being inside a rubber case.

Opinions?

I suggest you remove it from the case, occasionally and clean any dirt of grit between the case and the phone to keep it from abrading the phone.

This. Doesn't matter what colour it is, dark or light, it can get scratched.

If you don't choose to have a case, it's going to pick up scratches over its lifetime even if you absolutely baby it - microscratches from dust/dirt/inside your pocket, rings, coins, keys etc.

Goes without saying but if you're worried about a phone not scratching then it has to be in a case from day one.

Last two iPhones I've had - 13 mini and 15 Pro - both went into cases straight away, both as new a couple of years later when taking them out the case. My 15 Pro doesn't have a single mark on it.

Not necessarily! My iPhones are used naked at home and they go in a soft pouch when I go out. That then goes into a handbag, never in a pocket. They’re simply never exposed to grit and don’t stay in the pouch long enough for debris to build up and scratch the back and sides. My iPhones consistently look pristine come the time to trade them in.

Ahh, your original post sounded like everything you were saying was factual and not a mere opinion, lol. I see what you’re saying, we all have our preferences.

A lot of people like cases because of the added texture given iPhones are slippery devices. I am purely in it for the protective capabilities as a nice uncased phone only looks nice if it’s in pristine condition. One drop and the phone ends up looking like trash with scuffed sides and chips/dents. Going without a case and having a good looking phone completely relies on the user never dropping their phone onto a hard surface. I wouldn’t trust myself not to drop my phone for 2-3 years so I’ll stick with a case to avoid cosmetic damage.

I have an iPhone 13 mini and aluminum, while easier to sing and scratch, is more durable because it can ding. It’s softer and absorbs the shocks. I’ve had the 13 mini this whole time, have dropped it here and there, still use no case on it. I’m getting the 17 pro today. Will start off with the silicone case to see how I like it.

i went to the Apple Store. The blue looks horrifically abused already. People were even talking about how bad it looks day one. I don’t know if the orange had just less scratches or if it is hidden more in the bright color.
Really love the orange. Will get it. A shame that it will get a case on. Silver looks incredibly boring in my opinion, but for the scratch resistance optically it’s probably the best choice.

Its horrifying seeing how easily these can be scratched. From seeing pictures, I dont see many users fairing well. Orange seems to be holding its on as is silver, blue though... rip.

There is also a thread showing the black Air scratched to hell and showing MagSafe rings on the glass. This Ceramic Shield glass is not looking good.

Get a clear case and let that orange shine through!!!

Legit concern this is probably the real reason there is no pro black apple had a hard time with aluminum and the darker colors in the iPod days

What’s a good cleared case? There seem to be a lot of yellowing issues. I always got the apple leather cases in the past.

Thought about getting a bumper. Never had one. But I guess that part is what does the protection in any case.

(Also why the f is everything Militär grade or better?)

This has tomlead to some kind of aluminum or stainless steel unibody in a couple of years dissent it? I am not fully aware how far there are some constrains in terms of temperature and antennas and what not, but it just has to?

I am very unhappy with my Apple Watch 10 jet black because the paint bubbles up on the skin side (had it replaced twice in less than a year) but I think the top side is holding up much better than anyone expected. Not a scratch on it. Maybe they go in that direction for the pro?
