I've seen a lot of good things mentioned. Might have missed this one, but I love how it automatically unlocks my MacBook and iMac.

That said, it's one of those devices I have a hard time explaining. When I describe the watch to someone else, it just doesn't sound impressive. For me, it was a "have to experience it yourself" thing. Which you've now done. I understand wanting to love it. I remember being in the same boat. It was so much money and did so little, that it felt hard to justify. Then I lost my watch in a fire. The next few months waiting on insurance money to come through was really hard and showed me just how much I like and depend on this little thing I can't adequately describe.

You know we have now had the watches 10 days or so - and now really love them. I have no idea why really - just seem to have gotten attached to it!

I almost returned mine the first week and now I can't imagine not having one!

I am really tempted some days, and then others not so much…

I just don't think I have much use for it… apart from, ApplePay (But I am not shopping 24/7) or unlocking my Mac (I log in in the morning and put it to sleep when I am done the evening…) Very few reminders during the day — and the rest of the time I'll have a lump of black glass strapped to my wrist.

So, yeah… maybe one day that killer app will appear for me and then sure. But for now, I'm OK with a traditional, non digital, non smart watch. It just tells the time… for the past 105 years of its life. :)

Maybe I need to know more people called Tiffany or Lia? I dunno.

My last "smart watch" was a pebble 2, which died on me while playing in the water at the beach with my son. So I was without a watch for the last several months until I bit the bullet and bought the series 3. It's a lot more better than what I'm used to and still figuring out what else it has in store for me.

Anyone else have a similar position? What is the goto thing you use the watch for?
For me, the magic is in the combination of the Watch and AirPods. I get phone-free exercise and entertainment, both passive fitness/activity tracking and active workout-tracking. I can run without my phone while listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks. I can have my Watch guide me through and track a weight-lifting session without my phone while listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks. (I use it for bike rides too, but to be honest, I just stick my phone in a jersey pocket.)

Beyond that, I like the round-the-clock HR tracking. I can see when my overnight HR is elevated, indicating that I'm getting sick, over-training, or not getting enough sleep.

As I mentioned before, it’s all in adjustment period. At First the watch can be very intimidating and you’re not sure how it would conform to your daily lifestyle, (i.e If you would appreciate it for notifications, fitness or anything else). But once you find the convenience and simplicity of how well it works, and you don’t need to have your iPhone with you all the time, the watch becomes that much more of a standard in your life.

Seems to be the case for a lot of people.

I think it took somewhere around 2-3 months before I started feeling like it was a device I'd keep updating. A lot of my colleagues had Watches, but I was more technologically-savvy than they were; I figured that if so many other people had one, surely I'd find some sort of use for it. I already had a FitBit, but bought a refurbished Watch (save money) and... was incredibly underwhelmed. I just couldn't figure out a solid use for it.

In hindsight, my problem was trying to use the Watch like a wrist-sized iPhone. In my opinion, most applications on the Watch aren't that great if you're frequently going into them. The "killer" feature for me came when I realized I could easily switch between Watch faces just by swiping the screen. I made a face for home, one for driving, one for being at work... and they all had different "complications" (the things you see on the screen). Quick ways to get information, and fast ways to access things like the stopwatch, music controls, and so on.

It's now a really nice convenience, and I also bought into the fashion aspect by buying a few Watch bands and swapping them around every now and then. I ended up buying the Series 4 new when it was released. It's still a contender for the Apple device I could get rid of and not be bothered by, but I do feel that it has earned its place in my life at this point.

...and then I purchased one. I now feel as though I am really missing the point. Don't get me wrong, the idea of an easy ECG on a watch is fine - but that seems to be the only bit of additional functionality that extends the scope of an iPhone. I get that I can see messages without taking my phone out of my pocket and twisting my wrist - but is that it?

So it isn't the cost of the watch that was important to me - but I do want to feel as though there is more than one piece of extra functionality for the money. I hear rumours that non-invasive glucose monitoring in the next version and that would add a further health monitoring angle. Think I may be returning this and waiting.

Anyone else have a similar position? What is the goto thing you use the watch for?

Sold my AW4 for the same reason. Seemed quite unnecessary to me. Tried hard to make it useful to me, but could not.

Strange but I do now get on fine with the watch and pleased that I didn’t return it. I have a feeling that the price of the watch is difficult to justify and with apparently so few tangible reasons to have it makes it difficult to justify. I now think that if you enjoy nice things, have a desire for another Apple product and can happily afford it then why not? I continue to enjoy this one.
