I own both devices. I bought the iPhone 5s about 6 months after I purchased the iPod Touch. I've considered selling the Touch but I do use it daily. I listen to music at work with ear buds(not allowed to have it audible to others in the office). I also connect it to an external speaker at home. I listen to podcasts while driving. I even use it as a Roku remote with their App.

Since my iPhone is only a couple months old, I prefer not to use up the battery while listening to music or have it on the charger all day long. I'm sure I'm being overly cautious but that's just me. Perhaps in the future I will sell the Touch but for now I do use it daily.

I just keep a whole bunch of movies and audiobooks on mine. I do use it pretty often. In general, when I realize I'm not using some device that I used to enjoy all the time, I just clear it off, unregister it and give it to someone in the neighborhood to give to one of their children. Even a couple gens back, they are great devices to have if you don't have one at all, so I know they end up appreciated.

^^ I just LOL'd, not at you but because of what I was doing when I read your post... watching the movie Objectified on a 13" MPB, with the screen shoved into the upper lefthand corner and made smaller than an iPod touch screen!

I would not choose to watch a movie I'd never seen before on a little device like iPod touch, but I have to say that the retina display makes a huge difference compared to earlier viideo-capable iPods.

The finest details of cinematography in some of the shots in something like The English Patient pop right out of the 5th-gen iPod touch display. The scenes of the two little planes flying over the desert were breathtaking in a way they were not when watched on previous iPod touch or video-capable iPods. I noticed that when I was watching that film again the other night, babysitting application upgrades to a notebook machine I could see the individual sand particles when they were shoveling out after that sandstorm!

My eyes are old, so I was kind of surprised by the level of detail the retina display affords. I have to say I hadn't actually noticed that much of a difference between reading a book on my iPad w/ retina and on the original mini iPad without it. But for some reason video seems to show off the retina display's full advantage.

It's true, though, that the effect of far shots is sometimes lost on a little screen since there can be detail you need to understand even if you're not into the fine points of the cinematography). So first-time-watching for me is still on a 13" laptop.

Anyway just goes to show it's all in how each person uses and judges the usefulness of any of these devices. :)

After I bought the 5s I sold the ipt5 the next day. I just use the 5s instead and do not miss the IPod whatsoever.

Same problem here.

I got my iPod touch after my iphone 5S as I got a 16GB model so felt the 32GB would be useful for storing games I bought.

Sadly I find I hardly play game on my phone these days. Plus there's not that many new release racing games every week which take up lots of space anyway.

I also got it incase my iPhone battery runs out but find carrying the extra device a pain. I got it as a spare camera but I purchased a bridge camera so don't really need it for that now. I also hoped to use it to store music as an ipod sadly I hardly bother listening to music these days too.

I had a 32GB iphone 5 and went back to a 16gb for the 5S as it went up in price. Maybe I should have saved money and not got the ipod.

I've always had a ipod of some sort I just bought a ipod touch recently goes well with my galaxy s4 I can try android and still stay connected to apple best of both worlds

So January last year I bought an iPod touch 5th gen. I LOVED it. I would take it everywhere, play all my favorite apps, watch TV, and who could forget about the music? That was, until September. Some relatives actually bought me a iPhone 5s, which was VERY nice of them. I soon was doing everything I was with the iPod touch with my iPhone, but even more. I only remember a glimpse of me putting it in a draw. Fast forward a few months, I decided to sell some stuff on eBay so I could get a PS4. I again looked in that draw, and saw the iPod. I completely forgot about it until that point. I felt like the iPhone ruined the point of having it. I can't decide for myself if I should keep it or sell it. I mean, is there any point of even having it? They both even have the same amount of gb! Thank you for reading.
You've had at least 8 months worth of use out of it. Besides, it's not like you could have predicted that your relatives will get you an iPhone so I don't really see what the regret is for. Granted, you probably should have sold it to help pay for the PS4. Nothing stopping you from selling or giving it away now if you can't find a use for it. :p

Mind, I actually went the opposite direction and bought an iPod Touch (4th gen) even when I already had an iPhone 4. I used to use my iPhone as an ebook reader and when I get home, the battery's usually drained. I bought the iPod Touch so I can use it as e-reader while my phone is charging.

I like having several iPods available. Its a nice backup to any iPhone. When you travel, you might want to reserve your battery on your iPhone.

Friends of mine use their touch and iPhone, or smartphone, separately. While I do see the point of this as I still use my iPod Nano, its cumbersome. Give it to somebody who will use it, as it is still a valuable and usable device. I had an iPod Touch in jr. high, and it was my most coveted possession.

lol

also, I find it hard to believe some people have an iPod touch and an iPhone. I mean, I get it, but still. seems excessive.

I have both. My iPhone 4S' Wifi died and I didn't feel like buying a new one, unlocked with no contract or renewing with my mobile carrier. With the latter option, I would've been forced to leave my current $55 plan with 6GB of data for something significantly more expensive. No thanks. I thought about moving to Android, can get a Nexus or Moto for under $400, but also unappealing. So I bought an iPod Touch 5G refurb which I use most of the time and just use the iPhone for calls, Whatsapp, and company e-mail/calendar.

And if Apple is keeping the iPod Touch as a gateway iOS product, then it sure is working because now I want to upgrade to a 5 now. lol. I'll wait for deals just before the 6 gets released. I don't know why people want gigantor screens, the 4" widescreen is plenty big. I tried watching a video side by side with the Samsung Galaxy Note and honestly it didn't wow me any more than my iPod Touch does.

I regret buying an IPod touch 5th gen.

nice, but you could have sold the 4s for 200 or more depending on when you bought the iPod, and bought a new iPhone for the combined cost of that sale + what you paid for the iPod touch.

I will buy iPhone 6 ,, and I have the iPod 5 and I think I am going to keep it with me :)
Well if you need some money to buy PS4 ,, I recommend to sell the iPod , because every thing iPod does ... iPhone can do it :)

Sorry for my English :D
