I replaced the LCD on my iPhone 3Gs and it turn's on and everything seems to work fine, except now the backlight doesn't seem to work. I can see the screen in direct light but otherwise no go. I tried adjusting the brightness in "settings," no change. I restored it, no change. Suggestions?

    Two preliminary checks:

    1) Is your LCD screen designed for 3GS, if you use a 3G LCD screen you will get issues.

    2) Are all 3 ribbon cables attached properly and securly? especially the clamp down switch?

In my experience there are 2 possible causes to this issue: [1] the iPhone has been damaged by liquid or humidity. In this case you can replace the screen over and over but it won't do any good. [2] You purchased a low grade copy LCD display.

In either case ensure that the #1 connector is free of dust and is firmly clicked into place as this is the LCD display's connector into the logic board.
