I agree with those of you that say lay-off. I did something similar to get my first Mac. Last summer I received a new scholarship from my college for a $1,000 a year. My parents were going to have to pay a thousand less for my room and board, so I asked if they would put half of that down so I could get one of the new iBook G4's released late July. They did do that so I only had to pay for half of a new laptop for this school year. I do not know what the big deal is, how many of you honestly would not have done the same. My parents wanted me to get more than I did, but I talked them out of it. If his mom was willing to pay it after he told her the actual price, it don't see the problem. Honestly, how many of you did not lie to or cheat your parents out of money or anything like that? I do not want any responses to this, but honestly think about it. Dude, you are good in my book, and make sure your mom knows how much you care about her. Ask if you can help out around the house because it looks like you have something that some people do not have, a loving home to live in. Keep it going.

i would easily save the 170 dollars for something else and wait for it to come. And to think your in a single parent family and not that rich.

While i am the opposite end of the coin and have a decent amount of money and still would want that 170 dollars.

You sir are a horrible person. I would have given my mother a discount (huge one) for her bringing me up in a single parent family. I would have sold it to her for about 1500 then worked more and bought a new one when i could

I could understand the people who said he should sell it at face value. I also could understand the people who said that clearly this is his mom just trying to help him out by padding the payment. Hell, my mom used to do that all the time. I'd always tell her she didn't have to, but she'd insist.

But, what I do not understand, is your bizarre suggestion that he eat a thousand dollars, and work to get a computer some time in the future. Clearly he got it for school, and not having it for a month while waiting for shipping will suck enough, but waiting to earn another $1000 ?!?

Back off... Leave the poor kid alone. I think an adult is responsible enough to decide to purchase something. I don't think he ripped her off. She decided on the price. Seems kinda strange that she didn't just order the system, but it was her choice.
