Well, my whole family upgraded phones and switched to ATT on Saturday. I didn't think this would include my dad, but he heard me talking to my mom about it and wanted to get a new phone too. He had a lively smart4 (previously jitterbug). It was marketed to seniors and was a good looking interface, but that phone was really buggy and laggy and would disconnect from wifi and cellular on a regular basis and require a restart.

I took care of all the logistics and set his phone up in the Assistive Access mode. Apple clearly borrowed from the look of Lively, because the interface is nearly identical (in list mode), but just better all around. I'm really happy with the experience and the device. Unfortunately, I don't know that it will help much with my dad. He is pretty far gone and just not doing that well with anything really, especially with using technology. Oh well. Hopefully it will work at least a few times for him when the other phone wouldn't have and it will still have been worthwhile.
