I'm loling so much....this is taking fan boyismn to a new level....If you seriousy can not use your phone without doing that, take it back!
Thankfully mine works.

I am not a fanboy. Trust me.I was just trying something out to see what would happen.
Had one. Used it for 3 weeks. Worked OK. Our two iPhone 4's had garbled calls frequently and AT&T did not know what was wrong. It happened so much, I unplugged the damn thing several times. It got to the point it was only good for TXT messaging. Phone calls were good about 40% of the time. I am not the only one having the issue either - it seems to plaque iPhone owners. Rumor has it - turning off cellular data resolves the issue. Not a fix for me as I didn't want to turn it off and back on when I leave/come home. Annoying.
So there you have it![]()
Why don't you get a MicroCell if your reception at home is so bad? That's what I did, and now I get 5 bars and clear calls everywhere at home. AT&T gave me one for free..... and I didn't even have to use spray paint.![]()
I had a MicroCell and it was an utter P.o.S. - I'm in a "marginal area" where, with my iPhone 3G, I could move from one place in my house and have 2 bars and other parts of my house would drop to "no service".
I finally got an AT&T tech to determine the problem I was having and it's a design flaw of the MicroCell. The problem with the MicroCell is that it has the capability to "hand off" the call to a tower from the MC, but it can't do the opposite. So, if I moved to an area of the house that had 2 bars of service, it would hand off the call to the tower; however, when I moved back into another area of the house that had "no service" it could not hand the call back to the MC, and the call would subsequently drop.
Thankfully, the iPhone 4 (in a case) holds the calls much better in my house (yeah, I know - weird, right?) than the 3G ever did and I've yet to drop a call anywhere in my home.

Why would someone want to void their warranty to do this?????
If anyone else dares to try this, I would suggest going to a hobby store and finding the adhesive foil that is used to replicate chrome (can't think of the name, sorry - it's been a looooong time since I used it.) Many model builders will use this instead of tape to produce a much less prominent line when spraying, and the foil is so thin there's almost no edge for the paint to build up on.
To the OP, you may want to check with someone who works at a body shop. They could tell you how to buff that edge down and not ruin the original finish at the same time. It shouldn't be too hard, but I honestly don't know what to say - I know how to buff paint, but not how to buff paint AND preserve metal at the same time, while also protecting the integrity of an Iphone.
Well, hopefully AT&T will figure out a way to fix the problems you guys seem to be having with your now ex-MicroCells. For me, it was the solution that I needed..... I guess they sent me the one that works.
Would i have paid for it? No. I'm glad that the device and the service is free for me.
Anyway, back on topic.... sorry for the slight derailment.
You said that the paint chips off if you pick at it..... for the amount of time and effort you put into it, it seems like it will come off pretty easily. Any chipping yet, or have you been babying it so far?
Way too much time on your hands.![]()
