I think it's time for a visit to the Apple store

My mid 2012 rMBP (16 months old) is now showing marked image retention and recently the hinges have been stiffening slightly so that the screen can creak when closing.
The screen is the first generation LG (SJA1) so it's not done too badly.

I'll contact Applecare and doubtless need to make an appointment at the Apple store and see what they say.

I assume that it's likely to be sent away for repairs - is that correct?
They might as well clean the case out while they're at it

I think you can just walk in the apple store and ask them to get your rMBP fixed. No need to make a specific appointment unless the image retention can get fixed in store. But calling apple support before going to the store is a good call.

Did you get apple care ?

Thanks borqueens, I did buy Applecare.
I have seen reports that some had a screen replacement at their local Apple Store but I don't know if Manchester can do that or not.
My biggest worry is the quality of the replacement screen (shading, colour shift etc). I'll have to wait and see.

My rMBP is in the Trafford Centre for a new logic board.
I dropped it off on Friday 4/4/14, still waiting for it

Yes the Trafford Centre seems to be very busy and as a result of that I am going to the Arndale Centre in Manchester as their appointment system offers a sooner opening.
I'd be surprised if either would replace a screen there and then.

I normally go to the Trafford Centre with it being just off the motorway and plenty of free parking, Manchester can be a nightmare.
