Hi there,

Please excuse my ignorance when it comes to hacking / jailbreaking. I don't know that much, and probably shouldn't have gotten myself into something that I'm not 100% on.

Here's the deal: I'm trying to restore my iPhone 3GS. I jailbroke it right after it became available for 4.0 (which I had installed at the time).

Tried to restore through iTunes and I get 'This device isn't eligible for the requested build.' After doing some reading, it's looking like I might be straight-up screwed. I installed 'FirmwareUmbrella' and the only SHSH it's showing is for 4.2.1. I keep seeing stuff about needed one for 3.1 or something?

Is there any way to restore it? Or am I just stuck :/

Sorry again, for being naive, you can yell at me! Thanks in advance, too.

Idk

You might want to try putting it into restore/recovery mode. other then that i have no idea sorry. but i wouldnt bring it into the apple store....

Just plug it to itunes and hit restore.
It will ask you if you want to update and restore. Click yes.

When I try that, I just get 'This device isn't eligible for the requested build.' and then it asks me if I want to send the info to Apple, but I just keep saying no. D:

I'd try it on another computer too.
Not sure why its not letting you restore to the latest firmware cause all iphone's are eligible for that version.
You didnt install any 4.3 betas or anything like that right?

Nope, I haven't done any sort of updating or touching to the os since jailbreaking last summer (or fall, whichever it was, I forget).

I'll try it on a friends computer tomorrow. Thanks for your help so far :D

The answer to this problem is simple. You need to have iTunes updated to the latest version or it will not work.

How do I know? Another poster with this exact same issue came across me a while ago and the problems were solved with a simple updating of iTunes.

HAHAHAHAHAH OH MAN. So funny, because I am currently downloading the iTunes update. I was like "maybe this will help." Thanks!

Fdsjkfljdsklfjdsfsdfjkdslfjsdkf I feel like such an idiot.
