OP, I agree completely. I do believe it is good that Forstall is out, but there seems to have been soooo much piling on of complaints about him. Funny, I don't seem to remember many complaints until it was revealed that he didn't get along with Saint Jony. ;)

The guy seemed obsessed over how something looked rather than how well it worked. I'm glad his gone.

This is a quality ingrained in apple fanatics psyche. People have been poo pooing other OS's when they were clearly more functional because they weren't as pretty and encased in glass and metal. Apple fans have themselves to thank for that in part.

As soon as iOS 6 was released, there were tons of threads and comments complaining about Forstall... all because of the maps and subpar features, not because of politics or who he likes.

You could say the same about Johnny Ive.

The hardware he makes is beautiful, but that doesn't stop him making the iPad hard to hold with a smooth slippery back, or putting glass on the back of an iPhone thats easy to break.

The look and design of hardware and software has been integral to Apples success over the past few years.

I think the behind the scenes stuff Scott and his team did with iOS would be just as impressive, but we don't get to see much of it because Apple doesn't like to show their workings much.

I agree though, hopefully we will get a way to hide stock apps, and I would really like a way to change my default browser and mail apps.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was with my iPad. It's gorgeous but you can't hold it without a cover as the sharp edges cut into your palms. The idolization of Ive needs to stop and to be honest, I'm somewhat concerned about Ive controlling the UI he is clearly more interested on design than functionality.

Scott isn't getting enough credit for his contributions to Apple and I'll bet it's his personality that got him the boot.

He was creepy and always seemed disingenuous (like he was trying too hard) in Apple's promo videos.

Not gonna miss him, and glad Apple is clearing house to get back to its core.

Having worked in IT for 20 years there are a few things you learn. First off if you screw up, admit it, accept responsibility, and fix it. Scott Forstall has a long standing reputation of not admitting his mistakes, not taking responsibility for them, blaming others, and being difficult to get along with. Unfortunately this is all too common in IT management. Previous Apple leadership may have found value in his technical abilities, and was willing to shield him from repercussions because of it. Current leadership , not so much. Maybe his leather stitched applications will be appreciated somewhere else. Personally I find the lack of continuity annoying.

I don't know which iPad you have. I have 3rd gen and don't need to use it with a cover.

I love how everyone thinks that Jony Ive's taking over the human interface of the software side is some god blessing. What software interface originated from Jony Ive's himself?

Sure he designs cold, sleek, metal objects for a living, but has he done anything software wise to justify him as the saving grace of iOS?

At least scott forstall is a brilliant engineer. Truly amazing since he did invent the iOS iPhone in the first place.

How do we know Forstall was/is brilliant at software UI/UX? There seem to be a lot of people who don't like the look of iOS. It's not like its just Jony Ive complaining about it. Plus the software engineering for iOS was given to Federighi not Ive.

Oh and what experience did Steve Jobs have really have? He wasn't an engineer and he certainly wasn't writing code. Yet somehow he's thought of as the most brilliant engineer and designer even though he doesn't have a degree in either of those fields.

yea Jonny Ive has, I would say, a worse obsession in regards to sacrificing function for "looks"

I will be honest, I didn't even know he existed until he got booted. :p

But I dislike skeuomorphism, if booting him means no more of that crap that he keeps insisting on. I'm all for it.
