Agreed. Especially with the 6+. The battery seems to last forever. Watching the percentage drop is just distracting and pointless. Turn it off and free yourself from the chains of battery watching.

After a day of turning off the percent. I can definitely live without it being on. So I will definitely keep it off. Maybe until Apple fixes the battery drain issue then I might consider turning it back on but till then it will stay off.

I turned off the percentage about a year ago, and left it off on my 6 as well. The phone lasts all day, and that's good enough for me. This really does work if you are stressing about battery. Also, if by chance my battery were to die at an inconvenient time, I'm pretty sure my life will go on.

This is a good idea. I too love numbers and specs but with how much I check my usage vs % during the day, it would likely be beneficial!

Disable Battery Percentage indicator

I read somewhere that having the battery percentage indicator turned on makes people obsess over their phones and check it often to see what the numbers read.

I turned mine off last night and have gone through most of today without becoming OCD about it.

Visible indicators show about 3/4 of the battery being full and I have to say it's comforting to see that rather than a number counting down. Give it a try.

So what is the question?

How do you know the percentage of battery you have left if you turn it off?

I always had it showing on my phones till a month ago, then I turned it off.

And then... I found the Wdgts app. Added a calculator to my Notification Center and a...battery gauge. :D

You don't, it just becomes a simple gauge. My car's fuel tank doesn't give me a percentage reading.

Many cars these days show how many miles are left on the remaining gas (an estimate of course, as is the battery percentage). Thing like that can help at least some people when the power is on the low side since if and when it comes down to it I like to know if I have 1 or 2 percent left vs 8 or 9 which will look about the same without the percentage display enabled.

I've had mine turned off since I upgraded from an HTC One to a 5s. I just charge my phone when the battery indicator turns red.

I've never had battery percentage switched on on my iPhone's. I take it off charge when I get up. Put it on charge when I go to bed. Always worked for me.

I've only ever switched battery percentage on if I was in an emergency situation and knew I needed to concerve battery until I could get back home to my charger. About twice in the last 4 years.

I don't believe that the usage meter uses that much battery power. The amount of space on the screen that has the battery level is not at all that significant.

A better solution would be to lower the brightness of the screen.

I'm pretty sure that nobody is saying that the battery meter actually uses any extra battery, but I would say that it does add unnecessary clutter.

The point that the OP is trying to make is this: The battery percentage is just an estimate and it really isn't necessary for most people. Just turn it off and don't worry about it.

Or just have it but don't worry about it as many people don't already.

That makes no sense.
That is not a "ultimate battery solution" then. The solution should be in response to a problem which would be low battery life.
Turning it off has no effect on the battery life.
