16gb seems to be the starting point with most manufacturers at the moment. 32gb will surely be the base one day. Maybe next year.

You might have missed my post but Apple currently sells the iPhone 4S new at 8gb. They went out of their way to manufacture this new 4S with 8gb of storage as the original 4S when released was 16gb minimum.
So technically its been 8gb since 2010.
Most but not all. HTC now bases that on whether there is an SD slot. The M7 w/o SD slot = 32gb minimum storage. The M8 w/ SD slot = 16gb minimum.
Most other phones now are equipped with 128gb SD slot. So you can have up too 192gb of local storage. Making storage comparison relatively moot.
I wish it would have been Apple that started the 32gb trend.
Walmart and target have the 5s for 30-80 bucks pretty regularly.
Apple making the 5s free at this point make sense especially with how people are purchasing galaxy phones. I am a apple fan boy but when my friend told me the galaxy 4 for free or the iPhone 4s. I told them to get the galaxy. Way better phone and deal.
Apple has already shown that they are willing to play hard ball now with the iMacs and MacBook Air pricing. Why not the phones.
16gb is not enough!!!! I barely have anything on my 5s and it is full!! 32 should be the minimum. The other companies are catching up to Apple and If people start buying from the google store or getting the amazon phone apple will go the way of Nintendo if they get too cocky.
