Just updated my synology and found this. I think this is what Apple's designers were going for, and failed to achieve.

Fun, bright colors, but not so bright that you want to gouge your eyes out. :D

I think what iOS 7 was going for was blocking as little of the backlight from getting out as possible, so we could turn down the backlight and save battery.

If/when they change to an emissive display, we can expect a return to a darker-looking UI.

I think that the direction that Apple took with iOS 7 is a great start. They will continue to improve it and make changes from version to version, which is enough for me.

People seem to think of iOS 7 in a vacuum - when the reality is, its a foundation. Apple is already thinking about iOS 8, 9 and probably 10. They designed iOS 7 in this way.

We will continue to see refinements, just like we saw with iOS 1-6. Anyone who wants to "gouge their eyes out" when looking at iOS 7 really needs to calm down.
