Down south
So a few of the grandkids are staying the night. They just had some down time and played their iPads. When I took them away for the night, I realized we have a problem.

This is only half the grandkids (and therefore half the iPads), and none of the adults’ pads. 😳

Lol, funnily enough, I have more than that just for myself. The 3 in sig are in regular rotation plus kept a number of old ones after upgrading. :p

Lol. In my immediate family of 4, we have 12.9” iPads x3, 10.5” x1, 9.7” x2 and 7.9” x1, so 7 iPads, in current use. Another 5 iPads are in semi-retirement, still operational, but only used if the kids have friends or cousins over without iPads.
Plus we all have an iPhone each.

You can't beat the regular $300 ish iPad for kids or to loan out to guests. They're durable in the right case and if broken not a huge loss. I gave my son an iPad mini because it was more portable and he loved it! It's a bit more expensive but I bought the toughest case so it survived the few drops.

Well my adult kids are all married except one, and all have iPads and iPhones or MBPs and iPhones, or both. Their spouses have iPhones. Then all the grandkids with the exception of the 3 month old have iPads (2 Air 3s, 4 6th gens and a mini 5), one grandson has an XR, and I have the 11” pro and an SE (just sold my iMac). Oh and there are watches and AirPods too.

Apple - take ALLLLL my money. ;-p

Heh...before we cleaned house last year, we still had our original iPad 2’s and iPhone 4S’s. Sold 2 iPad 2’s, 4 iPad Air’s, 1 1st gen 12.9” Pro, 1 9.7” iPad Pro, 2 2016 13” nTB MBP‘s, 2 iPhone 4S’s, 2 iPhone 5S’s, 1 iPhone 6 Plus, 1 iPhone 7, 2 iPhone X’s, and 4 3rd gen Apple TV’s. Phew...

In the house we have left:
  • 1 5K iMac (Plex server is pretty much all it gets used for these days)
  • 1 2017 13” nTB MBP (collecting dust next to the printer)
  • 1 iPhone X
  • 1 iPhone 11
  • 2 Original iPhone SE’s
  • 3 4K Apple TV’s
  • 2 iPad Air 2’s
  • 1 9.7” iPad Pro
  • 1 11” iPad Pro
  • 1 iPad mini 4 (😍)

Those iPad cases look rock solid! Where can I buy one?

I did. So by we have a problem, I really meant *I* have a problem. ;-p

They are the BEST for kids. I have bought my fair share over the years. I get them from Amazon. A lot of brands make them, but I like Fintie and Moko the best. I don’t like the ones that have a long slit across the back (always look at the pics to be sure). Getting them in there can be difficult at first, but as they soften up, it gets a little easier.

With those cases and a screen protector, I think we’ve had 2 cracked screens in 8 years between 7 kids - not bad.

Oh, and they’re cheap - around $15.

I saw your sig had changed from Granny to the Spectacular Seven to the Extraordinary Eight and thought - another iPad! Did you manage to get your grandson’s Mini 5 back to Best Buy inside the return window?

I only have the Mini 5. Switched to a Samsung S9 as the iPhone notch isn’t for me. Love the iPad but don’t think I could go back to a phone without an SD card.

LOL she probably won’t get an iPad for at least a year. ;-p Honestly, the reason some of them started getting them was due to military travel - two sons-in-law in the Navy. Most of the grandkids have just not been fond of the car, and the iPads have been lifesavers. Of course, once some had them, ALL had to have them thanks to my compulsiveness. ;-p

It’s on the way back, and UPS assured me it would arrive in time. Honestly his mom had never had a chance to put his stuff on it, so it hadn’t been used - he had been using one of his sister’s. I still had all the plastic wrap and everything - the charger and cord had never been removed from the box. Hopefully it makes it in time!

**Just checked tracking and it made it back to Best Buy Wednesday, so I had some time to spare.

So in our regular rotation we have:

iPad Air 2
2 update mini 3s (kids)
iPad 6th gen (wife)
iPad Pro 10.5” (me)

Plus:

iPhone 6+ (daughter)
iPhone 6s (son)
iPhone 8+ (wife)
iPhone SE 2020 (me)

Not to mention all the devices we have laying around in your drawers and such.

You call that a "problem"? Bah! :p Those are devices for other people and reasonable.

When one has a stack of devices for their own personal use...

6 7 laptops
1 2-in-1 Windows tablet
2 desktops
3 Android tablets
2 iPads
2 iPod Nanos
2 iPod Touches
1 iPhone
4 Android phones
1 Zune HD

...THAT is a problem. :D

This does not include the list of devices that my wife owns.

ETA: It's actually 7 laptops, not 6.

I think a lot of us would be better off if we could sell and trade our devices as well as you when wanting to buy another. Though I must admit when I first saw the title of the thread, I half thought you had ordered a 12.9” iPP 😂

Only two right now, the new 11” 2020 IPP Cellular, and the 2019 Air Cellular that I’ve passed on to Mrs M.

Others end up being passed around the family, and the original iPad 2 is only _just_ out of use at Dad’s... a couple of years out of the loop when various Nexus and Pixel tablets came into the fold (lord knows why the Pixel C was great hardware, but software sucked).

Think the IPP is pulling me into getting a Mac again, but I’ve not found anything I can’t do on the IPP yet!

LOL I tormented myself over the size, but I am really super pleased with the 11”.

2019 iPad and 2020 iPad Pro cellular for me.

2018 iPad for mom. I tried to give mom the 2019, as her 2018 is very flaky, but she has refused.

2020 iPP was an attempt to have a cellular device to use for work, but that failed.

That’s not all yours so it’s not really a problem. Look at rui’s post below, now that’s pro hoarding :D

Now the tricky bit: map each iPad to its thread on this forum!

Four of the ones in active use are not mine. 😉

The rest are used for multitasking. 😁

Typical office setup:
  • Monitor 1 and 2 (desktop): multiple Excel and/or Access windows
  • iPad Pro 12.9 (docked): email, messages, Safari
  • iPad Air 3 and 7th gen: PDFs for markup/review (using same Logitech Crayon on both)
One of my Pencils died so instead of getting another Pencil, grabbed a 7th gen on sale for $229 dedicated for office use.

The iPad Pro 10.5 is the one I use when I get home while I charge the others. Also the one I bring for travel (at least back when that was possible).

I've currently got a 2017 12.9, a 2018 12.9, and a 2018 11. I need to sell the 2017, but I've never used swappa or anything, it it kinda seems like a pain.

I gave my Air 1 and Air 2 to my boyfriend.

My daughter has-- I don't know-- I think a gen 5 from her dad and a gen 6 from me, plus whatever her school-issued iPad is.

I'm sitting here wearing my series 5 watch and Airpod Pros, in front of my Mac mini with my 11 inch in Sidecar with a pdf of the answers my student is currently working on and my 2018 12.9 next to me with the whiteboard I'm drawing on. My student is on the screen on my Mac mini.

Check out mac me an offer for selling. You won’t get as much as private sales, but they are great to deal with, and it’s not like you’re getting anything with it sitting there. It’s only gonna be worth less the longer it sits.
