Piracy is stealing, period. The casual attitude of those doing it is what kills me. I hate to see this forum turn trashy, just my 2 cents worth.
Yup. I know pirates try and squirm out of that one but it's true.
I (used to) run a small independent game studio. One of our games used an online highscore and Cloud-like features to store bits n pieces across multiple computers. As you can well imagine if we allocate 500kb per user and hundreds of thousands of people then start pirating the game... we're going to run into some heavy server bills.
It was fine when customers were paying for the game (it wasn't expensive either! Just $5) but we allocated part of that towards paying these fees.
Now we're contemplating shutting down the server because we simply can't afford to keep it going. Which would be a blow to those who bought the game legitimately (it launched only a few months ago).
Pirates do suck. Their antics also force big studios to use DRM which only hurts real customers.
