My only critique is less about Live Photos and more about wallpapers. Having to touch to hold the wallpaper is a waste IMO. It needs to activate immediately every time.
Agreed. How often do we really press our screens before we unlock it? Granted, most of us aren't on the lock screen for very long at all, but why add an additional, unnecessary step?

Really, it's just there to give 3D Touch another use. Hopefully they change this though. Oh, and I'd really love to do this with my own time lapses— Apple Watch style!

Live photos are great but they'll be a even better the next time around... This was a feature I was really looking forward to using but I've turned it off because of the way it destroys the photo quality, even the still image is noticeably worse. When they've been fixed up and perfected, I can't wait to get some quality moments and a personal moving background.

I went back to a picture I took of my dog when I first got the 6s Plus and relived that moment. He was giving me his paw because he wanted a treat and it was adorable. I don't think a regular photo could've given me the same experience.

I also took a picture of the rain hitting the window of my car about a week ago and it's now my wallpaper. Pretty cool actually.

Anybody share similar experiences?

This is what I'm really liking about this phone. It's changing the way you think about things. For example, for me, why charge overnight when it was at 100%, at 7 PM, and the battery will last me 24+ hours? Why queue up some music to be played, while driving, when I can just tell Siri what to play? And now, thanks to you, when I take a picture, I'm going to be thinking, "When I look back at this photo, will I have wished I'd made it a live photo?"

I agree, but I think there really aren't that many uses for 3D Touch right now so they're making use of it every little way possible.

They may put a switch in settings in iOS 10 to play wallpaper without the need of a touch

They've had this for a while actually. It's called taking a video

If you know you want to capture something that a still photo won't capture, that's what videos are for.

Except that video cannot be used as live wallpaper.

then people will cry like babies saying the feature is eating up their battery

I think it would be nice to have an option where a live photo will play once when you first wake the phone, then after that you can 3D touch it. Then to keep the battery conscious at bay; give them the option to have a still version instead. Everybody gets what they want.

For those of you saying its a gimmick I can assure you it's far from it. Over the weekend I visited my brother and his one year old son. Naturally I took pictures of what the child was doing and when I went to my photo album to show them the pictures I took they were stunned as was I because I did not expect it to be so awesome.

My brother have been using android for years and he said he might make the switch because of this Live Photos, it was that much compelling!

I can honestly say people who take pictures with Live Photos will very much appreciate it a few months or years later when they flick back to those old photos and view brief moments of their past, I know I will.

I love it. Even when I take photos of people posing. It's funny to see how they are before and after the shot is taken.

Having kids, Live Photos are great. Capturing those little moments in time is pretty special.

For everything else? Meh. But for anything involving kids, they're awesome.

My kids are annoying teenagers now, so they don't even want their photos taken and if I do, they'll look like Sirius black in Harry Potter. I might have some more kids to make the most of this feature - that's Apple marketing at its best :p

I dig them. So far I've taken a couple of my cats, a few of my 14mo old nephew being adorable, and a few of my girlfriend up on stage doing a samurai sword demonstration at a Japan festival (video wasn't allowed, so that was handy to have).
